[history]
In a few short weeks, Republican voters will be presented with both a challenge and an opportunity. The opportunity is for Republicans, after years in the wilderness, to reclaim the coveted governorship of California. The challenge lies in picking the right candidate.

In addition to being a successful businessman and philanthropist, Simon has the core beliefs and principles to carry on the great Reagan-Goldwater philosophical tradition of the Republican Party. His belief in the freedom and dignity of the individual, combined with his optimism and intellectual vitality, make for a candidate with considerable potential. This is key. Simon HAS the principles and core beliefs to be a leader to revitalize the Reagan Revolution and bring it into the 21st Century. He needs to know that conservatives are behind him, that we are his base, that he can be confident that we won't desert him on March 6th (the day after the primary).
Riordan will destroy the Republican Party, lose to Davis in November, and help the Democrats take control of the 2/3rds they need to overturn any Davis veto. We can not allow Riordan to win. The time is NOW to act. We can not be complacent, we can not be disinterested. This is our state, and it is a great state. We can't allow the liberals to dominate, and the conservatives to shyly stand in the corners, bidding their time before they can leave the state.
Bill Simon is smart, articulate, and NOT a politician. He has principles, he's a businessman, he can do great things and roll back the size and scope of government.
Tell your friends, tell you neighbors, get off-line and walk your precinct. Contact the Simon Campaign and commit hours to help. Phoning, walking, talking, all of this will help. Go to church every Sunday, pray for Bill and his campaign and the people of California; then after service tell everyone you know that Bill Simon is the right man to lead this state. Do it EVERY week (you know as well as I do some people don't go to church every Sunday!)
Good luck! Go Bill Simon!

Simon has my support. I can't do much from Michigan, but unfortunatly(or fortunatly depending on how you look at it), California affects this country more than any other state.
If Simon wins, it will be a huge coup.

Thanks for putting this on the CalGov2002 list!
To: Dan from Michigan
Hey, Dan from Michigan, do you know anyone in California? Drop them a postcard or an email and tell them how great Simon is!
Thanks for caring about our leftward state!

Should a Gov. Riordan practice fiscal conservatism and restore prosperity, Republicans could then make significant gains in local and statewide offices. Before this Democrat In All But Label (DIABLO) practices fiscal conservatism, water will run uphill.

Sorry, outside of freepers I met, I don't know anyone there.

Well NOW you do have a bunch of friends in California -- home of Free Republic.

Should Riordan become the Republican nominee, he should proclaim, proudly and publicly, that he does indeed subscribe to the basic tenets of Republican philosophy.
Fat chance Dickie Pooh will ever do it. Au contraire he's been turning off the conservative base at every opportunity and going out of his way to demonstrate he's not committed to the basic tenets of Republican philosophy. The editors of the Orange County Register don't seem to gotten the message that Dickie Pooh is a proud LIBERAL who just happens to be a Republican. He is a DIABLA inside our party. There is no way I will support him or vote for him in the general election in the event he should become the GOP gubernatorial nominee. For Dickie Pooh has revealed himself to be anything BUT a true conservative.

The main problem that Simon faces is that he's an unknown in the political arena. Jones has a voting record, while Simon doesn't. This may pose a problem for him getting the kind of endorsements and connections that he needs to prevail in March.

Actually, Simon has a long history of action putting into practice his faith and his values (such as his involvement with the Catholic Charities and such ventures as PAX TV. As for endorsements, he's been endorsed by the California Republican Assembly, the California ProLife Council, the California College Republicans, the California Organization of Police and Sheriffs (COPS), Rudy Guiliani, Tony Strickland (R-Camarillo) the chair of the Assembly Republican Caucus, John Herrington, the former California Republican Party Chair, received a grade of "A" from the NRA, and a cash contribution from Pat Boone. He's gaining momentum quietly but surely.

I hadn't heard he'd gotten an "A" rating from the NRA. When was that?
