Thanks. There is another possibility, too, which may fit Occam's Razor:
I don't know anything about the divorce laws of that state, but if I were a judge saddled with a loser like that, I just might leak the story myself to minimize any possibility of him getting much of a settlement when I divorced him and to ruin his practice :)
