"I've always been baffled as to why people don't just type in their real names. What on earth do they think is going to happen to them if they do?"

I just borrowed one of your credit card numbers. Don't worry, if you file a report you are only responsible for the first $50.

You are welcome to them. I rarely bother to pay the bills anyway.

I could go through the online New York phone directory and get people's names if I wanted to engage in credit card fraud. Why bother to start here?

Personally, I have no wish to hide behind some dumb screenname. Much better just to be the person you say you are.

Then when people meet some arrogant drunken Brit they can't be disaappointed.

Little Bill's bizarre statement has an iota of truth and is the real reason why people are frightened to use their own names.

If we all gave our real names and you made some defamatory statement about another poster, it would be far easier to sue you.

What do you reckon, OPH?

You're not alone, g!
My Dad's nickname among his Air Force buddies was Jinx, and my Army buddies labeled me likewise. The standard greeting on the way to morning formation was "Hi, Jinx!" Of course, my mischievous nature doesn't have anything at all to do with the fact that I try to use HiJinx or some variation thereof anytime I'm online!
