According to his explanation ? based on the physical axiom that every action produces an equal and opposite reaction -- a high-velocity explosion on one side of an airliner will cause expelling gases to create a rocket effect that will push the plane in the opposite direction, which weakened the tail.

Me, too! This was my post from December 30, 2001.

I then followed it up with this post from January 2, 2002, and then this one from January 7, 2002.

Uncanny, huh?

Flat out, it is not possible to hide enough explosives in one's shoe soles to do enough damage to fatally wound an airliner.

And yes, I do know a thing or two about explosives.

As far as the "equal and opposite reaction" theory, answer this: What were the shoes attached to? If Reid had succeeded in detonating his shoes, since the explosive was uncontained, there was no possibility of a "rocket effect." To have that effect, the explosives would have to be confined, by a hard material such as steel, in a manner which would have directed the blast in a specific direction. Shoes don't meet the requirements. In any case, the explosives were attached to his feet, not the aircraft, so the only thing that would have been "rocketed" would have been his lower legs.

Nice try, but consider the source. Yes, even a broken clock is right twice a day, but Debka's track record isn't even close to that!

Roger Hedgecock talked quite a bit about this story, but not giving any source, on Rushs' show this afternoon.
