Lawmaker Wants Ban On Answering Door Naked
ACLU: Georgia Bill Would Violate Privacy Protections
POSTED: 3:21 p.m. EST January 16, 2002
UPDATED: 3:30 p.m. EST January 16, 2002
ATLANTA -- A Georgia lawmaker wants to make it illegal for people to answer the door naked.
State Rep. Dorothy Pelote (pictured, left) said that current state law doesn't go far enough -- it only stops people from going outside unclothed.
The Savannah Democrat could get a fight from the American Civil Liberties Union.
The group said that the law would violate the Georgia Supreme Court's guarantee of privacy inside the home.
This isn't the first time Pelote has made headlines for an unusual proposal.
In the past she's introduced bills to ban long fingernails for students and to stop supermarket baggers from licking their fingers.
And last year she told the Georgia House she'd been visited by the spirit of missing Washington intern Chandra Levy.

Whatever she's packin' in there, we know it doesn't rhyme with Glock. At first glance it appears to be a S&W. I'd be a little nervous keeping my Glock in Thunderwear. Not quite enough trigger protection to suit me.

Naked door-answering neighbors and spittle-dropping grocery baggers (during a TB epidemic). Have you considered moving?

and -- and -- what about -- uhhh -- picking your nose?? huhh -- yea man get the govt involved in that too. What about plaids and stripes?? Huhhh didn't think of that one huhh??

It may seem like an absurd law unless your child has been subjected to seeing the nude neighbor. Hate to break this to you, but hearing "It's for the Chiiiildren" is an easy way to know a bad law when you see it.
I'm not content to live in a childproofed nation where government thinks it's everyone's mommy.

I heard this on the radio coming to work this morning. The newsreader said he had no idea what stimulated this particular piece of legislation. LOL!!

After seeing the picture of Ms. Pelote, I must agree with her proposed legislation. Seeing HER answer the door naked would cause me to throw up!
