Simon deserves to govern a better state, but I will do what I can to get him elected.

I beleive the latest voter registration is about 45% RATS 37% REPUBS and 14% no party. The rest are the very fringe. 38 out of 58 counties voted for W. It might have been even more than that.

Registration in California is 35% Republican and 45% Democrat. You can't always go by registration numbers because Democrats in the Central Valley tend to be very conservative and vote REpublican, and Republicans in the San Francisco Bay Area are a bunch of liberals.

In addition, Republican vote at a far higher percentage than Democrats, at least in the past. Unfortunately, 1998 and 2000 were bad years for Republicans who stayed home in droves and Democrats voted in higher numbers.

Whether this trend continues is anybody's guess ... I think that a solid conservative candidate who is articulate and motivates people to work for him and vote for him -- like Bill Simon -- will do wonders for increasing Republican turnout.

The counties are overwhelmingly conservative (Republican) by the numbers, but the population base is really in the Los Angeles County and San Francisco County and the two or three counties surrounding them. That's over half the people in the state. Outside of those areas, people vote far more conservative for the most part.
