Think of the tens of millions of Brits - eyes seared down to jelly and their skin blistered and roasted red - collapsing in agony before this wise EU provision was enacted. I think we all remember reading about that particular human tragedy, don't we - the dead fridge killings, I mean? It was in all the papers, right? Indeed, our English cousins should assume the position and praise their new god for saving them from this horrific menace.

There are a lot of loopy laws here. I live in South Scotland. I just bought a house here and have been cleaning it out- old carpet, wallpaper and chemicals (paint left in cans etc). I asked around figuring there would have to be a point to take the chemicals like with refrigerators. Nope. "Just toss it in the skiff" I was told. Hmmm. Now what would I rather have an old refrigerator sitting in a landfill or a bunch of chemicals getting into the water table? Oh well- I tossed 'em in the skiff.
