Letter to Congressman Ganske
January 13, 2002 | Stacy

Posted on 01/13/2002 3:30:09 PM PST by Stacy

Dear Congressman Ganske,

During a speech you asked us, "Are you proud to be a Republican?" As a Republican I shoutedyes with the rest of the audience. I am proud but not of people who say they are a Republican and go up against the Republican base. Sir, in the past year you have gone up against the base. As a proud Republican it is my responsibility to renounce your voting habits.

Republicans are for smaller government. You have grown our government by 30,000 when you voted to federalize airport security. You have just created another government bureaucracy.

Republicans are for the preservation of life. You support the federal funding of Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood advocates and provides abortion. You say you only funded birth control. If you give money to them they are going to spend it on things other than birth control. If you give me money in the right hand, isn't my left hand going to benefit?

Republicans will protect our Second Amendment Rights. Sir, you received a D- from the National Rifle Association(NRA). Our right to bear arms will not be infringed by you.

Republicans are not in favor of the McCain Campaign Finance Reform. This all sounds good but it is going against the First Amendment.

Republicans are not in favor of the gay agenda. You voted for Domestic Partners Act. This will give insurance benefits to couples of the same sex like they are married.

Republicans are for tax cuts. You voted against the tax stimulus. Any tax cut is a good one. This is after September 11. Our economy is suffering and you voted against a tax cut. What were you thinking?

Republicans are against lawsuit abuse. Your Patient's Bill of Rights does not protect the patients. It benefits the trial lawyers. You should know this because who is your main contributors? Trial lawyers are the main contributors. Insurance is shared risk. When they are sued who pays? We do, through higher premiums.

So the next time you ask me, “Are you proud to be a Republican”, I will still say yes. But Sir don’t ask me if I am proud of you.

Sincerely,

Stacy

Looks like you need a bump.:)

I don't know the man you are talking about but he can't be any worse then what you have now.  This is one thing we can all do is support good candidates for office.  If we continue to support what we have now we will get the same kind of government we are getting now.

It is time for a change, not just in your state but in all states.

No problem.  It doesn't look like you have made much of an impression on anyone.:)  A little background Bio on your candidate might help.  I personally have never heard of him.  I know you said he was a farmer and ex-marine but maybe you could post some of his positions from his web site.

This is where Bill Salier stands on the issues.
TAXES:
We are constantly adjusting our lives to deal with the ramification of taxes. The tax code blocks our families from achieving economic security by placing more and more power in the hands of Washington politicians and bureaucrats. I do not think the tax code needs to be tinkered with, it needs to be completely overhauled!

Social Security:
I believe the Government should never again be allowed to raid the Social Security Trust Fund. Our promises to seniors must be fulfilled. We are in a unique position, however, and must slowly move toward voluntary privatization, as we meet our current commitments. Privatization offers two major advantages: 1) The money invested by individuals gives a far greater return; 2) The money saved by the individual can be passed on to the next generation. In the current system, the Government keeps all of the money paid in by the individual.

Education:
I believe in keeping education money here in Iowa. Why send those important dollars to Washington, D.C. first only to have 25 percent of it come back to the state? When the funding stays in Iowa, it prevents bureaucrats from limiting teachers and administrators from doing the job they know how to do best.

Second Amendment:
When I joined the Marine Corps, I swore to uphold and defend the Constitution. Tom Harkin and the Left are assaulting our Second Amendment rights. I will always defend the Constitution, and that includes our right to bear arms.

Even the local newspaper in North Central Iowa seems to not know Salier is running - a recent areticle about the Senate race was all Ganske. It's sad. And I wish we had a better primary choice in the Governor's race, too.

That seems to be a common problem in politics today.  The party's won't assist you unless you are a toady, the press won't cover you if you're not mainstream.

It's terribly difficult for an outsider to get any press or any help.  You could almost pick names out of a phone book and get the quality of representation we get today.  In fact it might be an improvement.  They wouldn't be insiders and would be replaced each election rather than the lifers we have today.

I've met Bill Salier, listened to his views, and I've now switched from supporting Ganske, to supporting Bill Salier.

Which newspaper was it? The radio stations know who Bill is. Jan Michealson has featured Bill on about 3 different times in the last 6 months. Jan has offered his show to be a debate forurm between Salier and Ganske. He is not being ignored by the base Republicans.

Ganske will be on Michealson on Thursday at 10am on WMT-600/WHO-1040. Call in your conserns or support of Bill.
