Smoke is rolling over Manhattan from a fire somewhere (I'm currently in Rock Center). We think New Jersey across the river. We get nothing on the news or web sites. Anyone know what it's about?

I can only see Ground Zero from my office and there's no smoke coming from there.

Aha. That adds to the case that it's pouring in over the river in midtown. Thanks! Let me know if you hear anything else.

Okay, the air has cleared up and we can see over the river now. There is a fire there.

It was kind of scary for a while folks, we were surrounded in fire smoke and had no idea of the source. :)

Hi, PianoMan. By the time I got your ping, there was no smoke to be seen from the 10th floor somewhat near you but a nice burning-leaves smell outside that reminded me of childhood. That would seem to substantiate the burning-meadowlands theory. Sorry, Oschisms, you missed all the wonderful excitement, what with your being so cool and downtown and all.
