Just heard through a good diplomatic source that we will not be going to war with Iraq.
Their intelligence says that we will work to overthrow the government in place and Russia has objected to an outright confict involving the US.

I can relate to what you SPOKE of Mr. UMBRA.
To: umbra
This is consistent with what Richard Butler said the other evening, that we absolutely must have Russia's agreement and cooperation or we can't do it. (Perhaps this is obvious.)

Thank God. Geraldo is already set up in Somalia. Wouldn't want him to have to pack his undies and move.
Work to overthrow it how? Didn't we try that and fail miserably? Would you trust us if you were a Kurd who saw what an unreliable ally we are?

I would be very interested in learing how you picked the username "umbra". An Ex-Cryppie

Ok how praytell are we going to overthrow the Iraqi government? The Kurds won't do it, that's for sure, Bush Senior already has a guilty consience over them.
I doubt there's any oppurtunity any group of people in the Iraqi government can overthrow Saddam. He just has too strong of a grip on Iraq.

Or is your source at State perhaps an IDIOT for telling you, knowing you'd blab as soon as possibe??Or does the State person WANT him to start blabbing... (whether it's true or not)

If true, this represents the triumph of Russian nuclear deterrence over the clamor coming from an American public brainwashed before and since Desert Storm to believe Saddam Hussein is "worse than Hitler," as the First Bush once said in a moment of hyperbole.
Iraq, being a secular dictatorship, is actually probably the best form of government we can hope for in that part of the world. It has no more sympathy for bin Laden types than we do. Look at how it reacted to Iran being taken over by ayatollahs. It immediately invaded.

This info is similar to what was broadcast on Fox today. They interviewed a guest who was billed as the former head of the nuclear program for Iraq who said that not only would we not attack Iraq in the near future, but had also suspended funding to the Iraq National Congress because we did not want to be pulled into a conflict when we weren't ready.

Just heard through a good diplomatic source that we will not be going to war with Mexico.

That may be, but they probably worked WITH Bin Laden. The whole "If your enemy is my enemy than we are friends" thing...

Ok how praytell are we going to overthrow the Iraqi government? Turn back the clock. Hashemite Iraq
To: Truth29
because we did not want to be pulled into a conflict when we weren't ready. Yes, that guy was great with Tony.
As for the 'not ready' part, we need to build a whole lot of cruise missiles!

This is disinformation. The fact is, we are nowhere NEAR prepared to go into Iraq, and action may have to wait until Saddam does something so egregious, so outrageous, that we shall have no other response than to go after him then. That does not mean, however, that preparation is not yet started. We may have to go to Chechnya first, and use that as the springboard. (I do not know. This is sheer speculation.) But Saddam should stand warned, we will come for him, and there will be no mercy, no bargaining, no retreat on our part.
