I think that the limits are only on idividual citizens. Corporations have a longer fishng line than you and I have.

Having your posts here is a perfect example of the difference between a discussion forum such as FR, and a one-sided circle jerk such as DU. We welcome your half-considered and emotion-based opinions. Others less tolerant than FR would simply delete them and ban you if you posted dissenting ideas.

MM has been here a long time. Althogh she is wrong 100% of the time, she is never rude to the rest of us. I give her a tough time, because I know I can beat her in a head-to-head debate. I ping her all the time, but she almost never responds.

All in all, she's nicer than most of people on this forum. I am sure that is why she is still here. Sometimes she gets off-topic and makes me laugh.

I see more people here that "profess" Christianity banned here than I do of democrats. It's all in the attitude that she has with fellow posters. I don't think I've ever seen her rude to anyone, but many are VERY rude to her.

But still, she is more wrong than ever. But, there is hope!

Wait a daggone minute! I thought an Attorney General's job was to ignore conflicts so as to run interference for her (uh, I mean his) administration.

I wonder how independent the auditors were, since they were paid by Enron.

I'm curious. Who would be the watchdog group supposed to make sure that businesses are complying with financial law?

The auditor is always retained by and paid by management. However, their duties are established by what are known as GAAS ("generally accepted auditing standards") which are defined in regulations by FASB (the "Financial Accounting Standards Board")which is an offshoot of the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants).

The SEC enforces public disclosure laws.

Finally, every public corporation's board of directors musat have an audit committee made up of outside directors to supervise the auditor. They have personal liability if they fail to do it correctly.

I don't really see the need for him to leave during the investigation. I don't see how the Secretary of the Army could influence the investigation in any way. It's not like he's in the Justice Department.

I wonder if the Dems will start screaming for an Independent Prosecutor? I doubt it. I think there's too much money and influence on both sides of the aisle in this one.

Enron and Andersen are the possible criminals here, but they had plenty of blind bedfellows on the payroll.

The whole set-up reeks of fraud and I hope they get nailed so that other company executives and directors take note and avoid this temptation in the future.

Executives and directors have been paying politicians for years to pass laws isolating them from liability and taking power away from shareholders. It is unlikely that they will take note in the sense that in the future they will not engage in such actions. Rather, in the end they'll be taking note of how easy it is to get away with robbing people of their money. After all, the governments only success is in robbing people, so how could one expect their laws to not be constructed to facilitate theft.
