DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE STATEMENT
After review of the relevant facts and law, the Attorney General and his Chief of Staff, Mr. David Ayres, have recused themselves in all matters arising out of allegations of misconduct by Enron Corporation due to the totality of the circumstances of the relationship between Enron and the Attorney General. The Attorney General has not been involved in any aspect of initiating or conducting any investigation involving Enron. Any and all responsibilities that would be exercised by the Attorney General with regard to any such matters will be handled by the Deputy Attorney General.

WASHINGTON -- Just days before Enron Corp. landed in bankruptcy court, the one-time political powerhouse may still have been funneling campaign dollars to Democratic lawmakers, federal election records indicate.
As Enron executives were scrambling to salvage a deal with Houston-based Dynegy in a vain effort to stave off bankruptcy, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee received three checks from the Houston-based energy and trading giant totaling $100,000, Federal Election Commission records show.
The contributions were collected on Nov. 26, according to the committee's report to the FEC, six days before Enron sought protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.
Hmmmm?????
If they have somthing to say, I want to hear it.
The Dems really don't want to go there....read it and weep. The weak links they are trying to establish to Bush and Ashcroft ain't nothing compared to what will be uncovered about Clinton and his cronies...including Ron Brown.
I can't think of a single time Janet Reno ever recused herself from anything. Am I missing something here?

I believe that would be the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
The law that required independently audited financial statements from public companies was in response to the stock market crash in 1932. "Cooking the books" by many publicly traded companies was a contributing factor to the crash.
Thanks. I'll have to take a look.
Enron Reps Met 6 Times with Cheney or His Staff
Do you think non-contributors got that kind of access?
Could be, MurryMom. I know that you "up and up" Democrats would love that to be the case because you are such believers in integrity--except when your own boys and girls are involved. Honesty and ethics haven't been one of your parties' strong points for the past eight years, MurryMom. Of course, you believe that only Republicans are capable of deception, being the good little brain-washed bimbo that you appear to be by your silly comments. I'll bet that you still believe Bill and Hillary Clinton's every denial, pathetic excuses, blamegames, empty platitudes and forgave them their silence, refusal to hand over documents, blatant parsing from their lawyers or an "I-can't-recall-even-though-I-was-in-charge" statement under oath when finally cornered. It might surprise your one-track mind to know that the now-sleazy Enron also had substantial dealings with Clinton (you, know, the guy that you gave pass after pass to his Tyson, Whitewater, Loral, etc. corporate buddies, business partners and contributers-in-trouble.) and his Democratic cronies.
Enron stinks to high heaven and should be investigated. At least Bush and his Administration are not foot-dragging on an investigation and haven't sent out any talking head sychophants to blame the Left Wing Conspiracy on this one, Dearie!!! Unlike you and your beloved Democratic Party that constantly plays the blamegame, winks at sexual harassment/rape allegations by their boys as "private, personal lifestyle choices," condones PERJURY from a President, encourages stonewalling investigations, mimics cries of "I can't recall" even when confronted by memos and witnesses to the contrary, has no problem with a witnesses' refusal to hand over materials/notes that mysteriously appear after the investigation has closed, looked the other way when evidence was missing, shredded, or deleted via numerous "administrative errors," shrugs their shoulders at fellow Democrats who have close ties to known contributers who have criminal records or shady dealings just as long as they vote to keep taxes high and abortion legal, MOST CONSERVATIVES KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH THEIR OWN! Just ask a long line of Right-wing politicos who were forced to resign by their party because of their conduct.
If Bush or Cheney were somehow directly
involved in Enron's deception and there is proof positive, I say hang-em high. But receiving contributions or being part of a business headed by a dirty corporate CEO is not the exclusive domain of the Republican Party, last I heard. At least Bush isn't playing the stonewalling, spin game like his predeccessor was prone to do.
I think that Bush is a lot smarter than you give him credit for. I find it laughable that you call him Dumbya, especially since you still believe that "Honest" Bill and Hillary Clinton were innocent victims of a RWC and above board human beings. I think that you are pretty dumbya(self) for buying into the Clinton mythology, but then I remember dealing with your kind until I awoke from my long liberal nightmare. The most important thing that I have learned over the years is that Republicans and conservatives demand a lot more of their politicians than your kind does--that's just one of the reasons that I left the left behind...
No one will be able to hijack a plane using a box-cutter because passengers will look after themselves from now on. Similarly, no one should be able to cost employees their life savings because employees will look at their investments more closely. People will either transfer their money out of company stock or, if they can't, leave the company.
Nixon went down for running interference on his campaign team after they burglarized the Watergate (something he neither knew about or approved).
Newt went down for...sheesh, I can't even remember. Is it true he served divorce papers on his cancerous wife, or is that just lib bull**it? Well, regardless, he went down.
Livingston had an affair once upon a time, so he got the boot.
Packwood stole a few kisses in the elevator, and his career was over.
Now, let's take a look at some of the "trials and tribulations" of Democrats. Hmmm, let's see:
One of the Senate's current "stalwarts" used to be a poo-bah in the KKK (Byrd). Somehow, that hasn't seemed to hurt his career.
Another "stalwart" couldn't navigate his car across a bridge. Oh, yes...he's still a power-broker in the Senate.
Torricelli's just been given a pass and is headed toward re-election..never mind the bribes.
And let's not forget the worst of the bunch. Rape, treason, perjury and fornication in the Oval Office has landed him squarely...on the lecture circuit.
Yeah...Dubya ought to worry big-time.
Dangerous business, being a Republican.
Contributions should be to a single fund. They the candidates draw from that fund for their financing.
If this type of thing went on in business, they would jail the people involved.
I think one could find a lot of Dems that recieved money from them as well. As a matter of fact thats the system we have and there is not a thing wrong with that...
Liberal innuendo aside I will wait untill I see any evidence of "knowledge of wrong doing and turning a blind eye" before I worry about this B.S.
And if that charge is advanced and sticks it would be very surprising. Also, that is still quite another thing from selling secrets to the enemy, then again with the media slant that it is I'm sure that the damage to the "working class" will far outway the damage done to our national security by Bill and Hill....
Good find!
