Won't it take a long time to accomplish this goal without greater pressure from the people? Shouldn't there be more publicity and education to the masses? We certainly cannot rely on our reps who would not relinquish fiscal and political control.
In the interim, aren't taxcuts a step in the right direction?
I am glad that you agree with me.
"Won't it take a long time to accomplish this goal without greater pressure from the people?"
Even with pressure from the people, it will take a long time. We the People will have to diselect some prominent anti-tax reform Representatives and Senators and elect pro-tax reform Representatives and Senators in 2002 and 2004 to get this job done.
"Shouldn't there be more publicity and education to the masses?"
Yes, most assuredly. We at NRSTA are constantly working to do that. Thass what we do, sweetie.
"We certainly cannot rely on our reps who would not relinquish fiscal and political control."
No, we cannot. We must threaten them with their jobs, and then carry through on the threat. IOW, send some of them packing!
If we can muster the grass roots strenght to send enough Representatives and Senators packing on the fundamental tax reform issue, the rest will fall into place. Keep in mind that to most of our elected officials, their most important job is to keep their elected position of power. It is a disease, and most elected officials have it.
In WDC, that disease, and it is a contagious disease, is called "Potomac Fever." But local, county and state elected officials have the local, county or state version of the same disease.
"In the interim, aren't taxcuts a step in the right direction?"
Yup. If they are immediate and meaningful.
