What odds do you place on Simon winning the general if he wins the primary? 15% sounds about right to me. The problem with Riordan, is that it is about 40%. Not good.

All Dick Riordan has going for him is name recognition. The more Republican primary voters learn about his liberal record and ties to Rats the more turned off they'll be. Granted Bill Simon is unknown to most voters but on the plus side he has a chance to establish a clear identity before the Rats can pigeonhole him. The open issue is whether the CA GOP would give him its full support or leave him hanging out to dry like the RINO party machinery left Bret Schundler in New Jersey last year.

Lots of time between March and November. I wouldn't write anything off at this point. Even wishful thinking.
