"And so, proving my point, if any Keyester comments on this posting, it will be ponderous and humorless and painfully detailed (I've touched The Lord's Anointed, after all). No Keyester can say, "You know, you have a point. The guy has great points, but ruins his own case by being way too full of himself and Unable To Play Well With Others" -- any more than a Christian can say that Christ takes Himself too seriously. The difference being, of course, that Christ really is God."

Those are YOUR words, Dan. You called ALL Keyesters cultists.

I repeat...you are bearing false witness against your brothers and sisters in Christ.

I'm a Christian, and I disagree with you. Keyes supporters seem eerily unable to acknowledge anything negative about the man. Evidence of that is all over this thread. Dan did not use the word and has assured you of his intent (why you're not willing to accept it escapes me) - but if that is your definition of a cult, then, I can see why it might be upsetting to confront that issue. You may be uncomfortable hearing it, and you may be uncomfortable with the truth Dan has put forth, but that does not make it false. He just sees something you apparently cannot. There is no balance with many of you.

I don't dislike everything about Alan Keyes - just some things. Enough not to make me a fan. I've actually said (on this thread) that there are some things about him that are good. You'd think from the reaction on this thread that I had done something inexcusable. Is that a cult? I wouldn't have called it that, exactly. And neither did Dan.

  1. I will admit immediately that my wording in that posting is very broad ("all," "no," "every"). I actually hesitated, figuring that the famous Keyester hyper-legalism would fixate on the question of the statistical accuracy of those words (thank you for illustrating my point yet again, for free) rather than working with their common use. So if it will move the conversation on (it won't), what I said is not LITERALLY true of EVERY LAST SINGLE (or married, before you seize on that) INDIVIDUAL who admires Dr. Keyes.
  2. Your responses, however, illustrate my observation very nicely.
  3. The word "cultist" does not occur. (If your arguments live by legalisms, you must agree to let them die by them.)
  4. I stand by my statement, according to the common canons of communication, 100%. I adduce you as evidence of its truth.
Dan
