The character of a "leader" is not "substance"? Ooh, I thought that Clinton underscored the fact that it is.

  1. I'm not wiling to summarize a carefully thought-out and reasoned essay for you in a sentence, no.
  2. Arguable.
  3. Keyes has that "right," as he has the right to die his hair pink, paint silver glitter all over his skin, and do Michael Jackson dance-moves every time he thinks he has made a point. Those rights, and many more, are his. (Who questioned his right? I question his wisdom and effectiveness.)
  4. Not what I know of it. (I am a Bush-supporter, not a Bush-cultist.)
  5. "Right"? See above. Then your "one more" becomes "three more" (live by the legalism....)
  6. Yes.
  7. "Right"? See above.
  8. No, he was not. What he did was fatuous, conceited, self-serving, posturing, legalistic, arrogant. While the rest of the world was gasping at Bush's open confession of Jesus as his Savior and the most important person in his life, Keyes was pecking at irrelevant molecules. It is a classic illustration of my point.

Excellent, very well-put. "Pompous," that's one word for which I was reaching. What Keyes said wasn't about Christ. It was about himself. "W was probably just too stupid to understand the question. Thank God you have me! Let me 'splain...."

Ick.

When does having friends suggest or imply cliques--here at FR or anywhere else? LOL....I have lots of friends here; so far as I know none of them or myself are in a clique! Good grief, if this was somehow meant to implicate Keyesters, I must remind you, Keyesters are generally referred to as "Kultists" not "Kliqueists"! :)

If I caused you pain, I apologize. You may talk about me to whomever you desire--here at FR, most have learned to grow a thick skin and I've tried to do likewise.

The word "cult"....you suggest it's subject to multiple interpretations...maybe so; however, considerinig the way the English language has been bastardized in recent years, use of the word cult has virtually always been negataive And when coupled with religious remarks, you can rest assured the implication is negative and was meant to beso.

Interspersed with words like prophet, messiaic, palm leaves, worship, satanic, ad infinitum, would lead most reasonable people to believe the 'worst' rather than passive or 'benign'. Would you not agree?

Somehow words like, "the Bush Kultists passed cookies and candy out to the elderly patients at St. Anthony's Home for Abused Elderly to exhibit but one act of what compassionate conservatism embodies" don't quite reach the level of something like, "the Keyes Kultists would follow their messianic, prophetic, almost satanic-like shrilled-voiced preacher anywhere spewing their venom and spreading palm leaves while crawling on broken glass.

BTW, notice the first sentence is about 'policy' while the second is an attack on not on the Keyesters but on Keyes himself....never a mention of any idea or policy he has put forth.

While FR is popular, I wouldn't count on it being the trend setter for the whole country. From experience, I assure you, there are lots of people around the country that don't even know when we're in election cycles! I can further assure you that not everyone at FR knows everything that's going on, i.e., the 'secret society' thing. While it can be said that many FReepers are quite knowledgable about government and politics, I can also point out that there are a great many who don't think beyond their 'feelings or emotions' to arrive at what government is and/or should be. We even have freepers that don't realize that censuses are taken every 10 years. Nor that they are used for redistricting purposes. Nor that all states go through the redistricting process every 10 years as a result. Surprised? I was--the guy that didn't know this appeared older than me and possibly you--I say possibly cause your Daddy could have sired you in his old age whereas I'm a war baby.

BTW, being 'disingenuous' works both ways....you say KFP is being disingenuous because everyone knows differently, and then you turn around and say that you believe I'm trying to stiffle dissent when I have pointed out to you the fallacy based on what has been posted on the board. In other words, you question his veracity and when called on yours, use the "I believe' defense

Thanks again for pinging the thread.....the more folks with the chance to see that Dr. Keyes will have a program the better it is.

Have a good day, Daughter....

And I stand by my statement that you are a slanderer of fellow Christians...no matter how you want to spin your own words, they still read as a blanket accusation of what amounts to idolatry. They still read as a juvenile attempt to paint everyone who disagrees with you (the all-wise and all-knowing BibChr) as seriously deluded fools who don't or can't think for themselves. (Unfortunately for you and your argument, it's simply not true.)

If you want to paint all of us that way, fine, that's your business...but don't expect people to just sit still and take it, Dan.

Fact is, you come across on this thread as everything you attribute to Keyes and to those who appreciate his tireless attempts to forward the conservative movement.

MSNBC jumping on bandwagon driven by EIB, ClearChannel and FOX.

ClearChannel?! All they do is buy up good stations and put them on the road to mediocrity.

The high-powered AM station here still bills itself as "Your News and Information Station" but, for starters, the morning show has devolved into mind-numbing, worthless banter between the formerly-interesting host and two Johnny-come-lately twenty-somethings (like, this and like, that, giggle, giggle, giggle).

The local ad spots during Limbaugh are now filled with cr@p such as ads for "male enhancement" products (have fun explaining that to your kids if you dare to tune in Limbaugh in the car).

And, drive time is a talk show hosted by one of their salesmen (marketing rep, sells ad time to sponsors); it's frustrating to hear such a lobotomized eunuch express nothing but polite gratitude for blatant lies from callers and book-hawking guests. (What's he going to do, chance p*ssing off a sponsor?!)

At least around here, ClearChannel is the worst thing to happen to AM radio in the 41 years I've been listening.

Please don't flatter yourself, Rowdee. You couldn't cause me pain. I'll read the rest of your post when I can generate some interest in doing that.

One day, some of these good folks are going to be like a person who wonders why he gets weird looks all night at a party, finally goes home, and sees in the mirror that his zipper was down.

Except to make the analogy really fit, we'd have to say that fifty people at the party had tried to get him to zip up, and he'd spent 45 minutes explaining to each one in earnest, ponderous, humorless detail just why what they were saying was incorrect.

You're clearly pushing some buttons, Dan.

During my lifetime, I have known people who have become so addicted to following certain personality types (very charismatic pastors and celebrities, for example) that they lost their ability to see things clearly. Any criticism - even legitimate criticism - of the object of their admiration was seen as a threat.

Earlier I said it was "borderline dysfunctional". I think I'm ready to upgrade.

Sounds like a perfect description of the 'bash anybody who is the least bit critical of Bush Administration policy' crowd that you're running with.

After all, that's the whole basis of the attacks on Alan Keyes by these people.

By the way, I think you should remember that the current controversy under discussion is not about Alan Keyes...it is about those who supported him.

You will find that I am very quick to jump to their defense...after all, I know them...unlike yourself, or BibChr for that matter.

Those who trash them are trashing hundreds of the best people on Free Republic...and thousands of the finest Christian people in America.

After all, that's the whole basis of the attacks on Alan Keyes by these people.

Respectfully, I don't think so, EV. Some people simply do not like his attitude - Bush or no Bush.

Why is it so impossible for you (and others - you're certainly not alone) to fathom that Alan Keyes might actually have some legitimate flaws? It's as though it's beyond the scope of what you're willing to honestly examine. The visceral reaction to criticism of Alan Keyes among people on this board is almost bizarre. It's as though it's a personal threat or something.

By the way - I don't "run" with any crowd, EV. I barely know anyone on FR, to tell you the truth.
