Look, let us all quit the kibittsing (wow, is that a new word or an old one?), Alan Keyes will be a refesssing commodity on National Public Televison.

I am so proud of Keyes getting this spot. This is big, real BIG.

Honestly, I can see how he can handle it. It is a great challenge. Hey can handle it.

Considering that I, an ardent supporter only had a grand total of 36, I'd say you definitely earned every bit of the title of CLOSET KEYESTER.

Well, Rowdee, as charming as your post was (loved the bit about people making "arses" of themselves - pure class!), and as much as I'm sure you would like to win people over for your hero Alan Keyes, I feel I must be honest with you. I am most definitely NOT a "CLOSET KEYESTER". In fact, the more I talk with you all, the less I admire the man.

I really think this trip you're on is essentially an attempt to shut people who don't agree with you up, much the same way gay people do it to straights who speak out in opposition to their lifestyle. Thankfully, such techniques are usually ineffective.

As it will be with me. Cheers, and all that kissy huggy stuff you guys say. Oh - and a BIG, WIDE ALAN KEYES GRIN to you, Rowdee!

I was sitting here wracking my mind, trying to remember the points where Dr. Keyes has been critical of the President...hmmm...

A couple of questions for you:

Do you think it's ok to use the cells from murdered/aborted babies for continued stem cell research?---(a simple answer will suffice...I don't want to go back and read the piece you wrote on it).

Was this a flaw in the President's otherwise flawless decision concerning stem cell research?

Does Alan Keyes, as a concerned American citizen, and a top pro-life activist, have a right to question the President's decision?

Hmmm...Keyes was also critical of the Bush/Kennedy/NEA education bill (you know, the one that sets true reform efforts back for a long, long time...maybe for a generation.)

...do you like this bill, Dan?

Does Alan Keyes, as a top conservative, one who has fought for many years to promote true local control of education, have a right to be critical of this bill?

Oh!---one more for you:

Is Jesus a political philosopher?

Did Keyes have the right as a Christian to mildly disagree with that assessment? Was Alan wrong when he set the record straight...that Jesus Christ is GOD?

I repeat...you are bearing false witness against your brothers and sisters in Christ.

I'm a Christian, and I disagree with you. Keyes supporters seem eerily unable to acknowledge anything negative about the man. Evidence of that is all over this thread. Dan did not use the word and has assured you of his intent (why you're not willing to accept it escapes me) - but if that is your definition of a cult, then, I can see why it might be upsetting to confront that issue. You may be uncomfortable hearing it, and you may be uncomfortable with the truth Dan has put forth, but that does not make it false. He just sees something you apparently cannot. There is no balance with many of you.

I don't dislike everything about Alan Keyes - just some things. Enough not to make me a fan. I've actually said (on this thread) that there are some things about him that are good. You'd think from the reaction on this thread that I had done something inexcusable. Is that a cult? I wouldn't have called it that, exactly. And neither did Dan.

Read it again...slower this time.

Dan clearly did what so many have done in the past...slandered Keyes friends and supporters as cultists, when nothing could be further from the truth.

Criticizing Keyes is one thing...he's a public figure, and fair game...(although your's and other's criticisms are generally concerning his personality, not the substance of his political agenda)...but this 'cult' cr*p slanders some of the finest people I've ever met...and the vast majority of them are very committed Christians...not followers of a cult.

That is offensive, and he needs to knock it off.

Was Alan wrong when he set the record straight...that Jesus Christ is GOD?

I know you're discussing this with Dan, but I cannot let this comment go.

Do you honestly believe that George W. Bush does not know that "Jesus Christ is GOD"? He was asked the philosopher question, and he wanted to talk about Christ. He's a sincere believer - as sincere as you or I. It was petty and classless of Alan Keyes to pick him apart for the purpose of scoring points. Whether it's sour grapes or not when he does things like that, it appears that way to many of us.

With Keyes, it's not so much what he does, it's the way he does it. He's pompous, divisive and unkind. If you don't have a problem with it, that is your prerogative - but is it so utterly unfathomable that some people (even Christians) might be turned off by it?

Forget that kissy hugggy crap (I could swear you been talkin with Howlin).

A bless your lil' ol' heart is in order to continuing to bump this thread.

It takes courage, gal, but if you're your Daddy's daughter, you can keep up the good job.

Have a great evening....regards

Hiya EV....another day closer to the premier of Dr. Keyes new television show. I've got to see if I can buy the programming from my satellite supplier.....I couldn't from the previous one I had, so will have to see.

If I can't get it, I'll just have to look for transcripts or threads discussing the issues he covers.

I've always felt, since first hearing him, that given the chance for a national audience that he could make headway against the liberals--restore some legitimate debate to the arena of ideas.<p.Did you ever get to listen to his radio show? What about when it went to NET/America's Voice--the old Paul Weyrich satellite channel?

More personality-based criticism...by now, we all know you don't like his personality. (By the way, you think your definition might fit a few Keyesbashers, as well?

Let Dan speak for himself.

Read it again...slower this time.

I read it right the first time, thank you.

That is offensive, and he needs to knock it off.

And should I be offended by the obvious slap at my ability to comprehend the substance of the exchange between you and Dan? Is that your idea of good communication with a brother or sister in Christ?

Condescending seems to come pretty naturally to some of Alan Keyes' supporters - but then again, it seems to come naturally to him, as well, so I suppose it fits.

Funny. I haven't seen Dan acting that way.

You are correct...

I have personally known MANY former liberals/Democrats whose eyes were opened by Dr. Keyes' articulate portrayal of the founding principles of our free republic.

Oh, I'm my "Daddy's daughter", all right. He taught me right. One thing I learned from him is to think for myself and not be afraid of people who would attempt to discourage me from expressing my opinion.

Have a great evening....regards

Same to you, Rowdee.

You need to brush up on your reading comprehension skills, sister.

Dan clearly slimed Keyesters as cultists. Why can't you understand simple English? Is it because you don't want to?

The people who supported Keyes in 2000 are my friends. They are Christians (at least the vast majority). They are amongst the finest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Why are you surprised that I would be angered by a Christian like Dan doing this to them? He should know better, and so should you.

"For instance, the issue at hand is that Bush said Jesus Christ is his "favorite philosopher." This is not a confession of faith. Calling Jesus Christ a "philosopher" degrades Him as no more than a theorizer, and He is generally only called this by those who do not feel He is a Divine Being. But Keyes didn't even make an issue of this; all he said was that Bush must have misunderstood the question, because Jesus Christ is not a philosopher, he is God. And Keyes didn't even volunteer this opinion. He was asked it in two interviews after the debate." Jesus indeed was not and is not a philosopher. A philosopher "philosophises" about things not known for sure. Jesus, of course, being God, knows everthing, doesn't philosophise. I think that our Prez had a slip of the lip as he often does and didn't mean that Jesus is not God. It's much better to be good at heart than good at being "slick" (der schlickmeister)

I'm glad you mentioned that, EV. Just within the past few days here at FR, I've made the acquaintance of a former liberal. I'm going to FReep mail your comment with the url of this thread so she can decide if she wants to watch the show.

She's more than passingly aware of the folks here that have a lock-step attitude...and it doesn't hold up to her scrutiny. She seems very much for the principles of the Founding era.

Let Dan speak for himself.

I'm not stopping him. I'm just supporting him.

And what is it with you guys? If I call Alan Keyes "pompous, divisive and unkind", it's deemed "personality based criticism" - what do you need, a ten-page report with footnotes supporting my opinion? He is more than the sum total of his positions on issues, you know. His personality is fair game, because it is part of the reason he would make a terrible president. But you people never seem to want to acknowledge that.
