The real difference between Mexico and Argentina is that Mexico shares a border with the US.

The cost of a bailout was trivial in comparison to the cost of protecting the US from a neighboring nation with serious rioting and possible insurrection. Not to mention the issue of millions of *genuine* refugees entering the US and no good way to send them back.
