That's right. That's the problem.
The "career politicians" don't give a hoot about the normal everyday person or, IMO, a lot of them about their country.
All they care about is winning the next election because they don't have a job that they can go back to.

Your earlier post implied there was some Golden Age wherein the politicians were not career politicians.

The reason you have to worry about career politicians is precisely because the average voter (and non-voter) is braindead. Having them in office would be disastrous beyond belief.

Look at the uproar generated at the proposal for the slightest reduction in government and the inability of devoted ax-wielders like Ronaldus Magnus to change it much.

Reducing government size and power is not a priority with the vast majority of voters (or non-voters either, apparently.)
