one guy was caught on camera for not paying a 35 cent road toll.
they hounded him to the ends of the earth.
he lost his case.
they will kill you for that 35 cents!

>>Now, I saw the light just turn red just as my car got to the line at the intersection. But if I came to a sudden stop, I would almost certainly have been rear-ended to the best of my judgment
Sounds like one I took to traffic court.
The judge said. "Guilty...pay the clerk. NEXT"

Fight it. Take it to court. If you lose, the fine might be reduced, and the points against your license would either be the same or lessened. You either get the same punishment or less, not more.

Hey Bro,
Time for the scanned ticket images to be posted.

Along with checking "last date of equipment calibration" I would also check to see who is responsible for the calibration and the monitoring the camera and any monies they may be earning based on percentages made from the camera. In San Diego the company that was monitoring the cameras was also the same company receiving about 40% of the $$$ created from the cameras.

Put your money where your mouth is. Hire a fancy firm for a few thousand dollars and go make some law.

The courts will try like heck to intimidate you out of fighting this. I had a red light ticket dismissed in a JP court.
I was in the left turn lane, stopped at the red light. The light turned green for a split second and then back to red. I checked for traffic in all directions - not a car in sight. I went through the intersection and withinin 15 seconds a cop pulled me over. I told him the situation and "Yeah, sure buddy", he issued the ticket.
As soon as I got home I called the signal division and reported the screwed up light. They fixed it that day and the next day I ordered a copy of the work ticket.
I explained the story to the JP and showed him the work order. He asked the cop if he had gone back to check the light. "No". Dismissed and one dirty look from the cop for embarassing him in court.
So, this is not related to your case in any way, just a sucess story.
To those that compare a red light camera to a security camera: A security camera tape doesn't issue any citations. It is used as evidence in an investigation.
The court is going to treat you like crap if you insist on a jury trial, especially if you plan to represent yourself, but it is your right. If you have the guts, go for it. Maybe we could pack the court with FReepers from your area for moral support.

Pick up the February issue of Car & Driver. The one with the new Ford GT40 on the cover. In the first few pages, Patrick Bedard (the bald editor guy) has his full page column. He hates red light cameras and has done a bunch of articles on them. I know in this latest issue he writes about them but I haven't read it yet. Check it out. If it is helpful, I know he has written some in previous months. Good luck.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but whose name is on the ticket? If it is your mom's name on the ticket, and the picture shows a man driving, she should go to court and get the ticket dismissed. She can't be held responsible for someone else's driving violation.

"And I'm counting no less than 3, possibly 4 violations of the U.S. Constitution on the citation in front of me. "
And those would be???

1. Go to court
2. Plead NOT Gulity!
3. Get a trail date
4. Show up on trial dat
5. Ask for a continuance
5. Write the judge and ask for an interview with the citing officer (the one who issued the ticket)
6. Pose all of the questions you saw in this thread and write them down
7. File a motion for Discovery asking for any and everyting about that camera (number of citations, copies of photos, calibrations, the user's manual, etc., etc.
8. Show up for the trial and see if the prosecution does <pP Chances are good that your motions will be denied, BUT, if that's the case, the opposing attorney canot introduce anything against you that you cannot question, so...you win!
