I forwarded the article and your words to my dear old dad who was a California school teacher with all the liberalism that that implies.
He supported clinton through all my disgust and attempts to convince him of the evils of disregarding such behavior in high office. He also felt a need to condemn Tom Campbell for being in 'lockstep' with Gingrich, even though Gingrich was long gone at the time.
Maybe a kids eye view will make a dent in his perspective. I doubt it though, clinton supporters aren't known for their ability to see past the percieved 'Vast Right Wing Conspiracy' of their fears.
The Democratic party has boken its bond with many, many of its core group. Between the Clintons, the way the Democrats have dealt with 9-11, and their obstruction of the economy, I see a good but slow trend helping to improve the Republican party and the health of this country.
What really frosts my wife is that both our sons are very strong, pro-Republican and point out the faults of the Democratic Leadership to her. It is interesting how my wife no long objects as strongly as she use to about my watching the Fox News Channel. I see a trend, so maybe you get a chance to find out that your dad will vote for some selected Republicans in some races and not vote at all in other races.
