I find it hard to believe that even the Democrats would be dumb enough to use the "religious right" as a campaign issue when the states that are up for grabs this year have a large number of Catholic swing voters or evangelical Christians who ordinarily don't vote unless it's urgent. All Republican candidates in states like Missouri and Minnesota would have to do is say that their opponents belong to a party that compares people who oppose gay marriage to the Taliban.
