The Afghanistan Ambassador to the U.N. has just finished giving a speech, and walks out into the lobby where he meets his American counterpart. They shake hands and as they walk the Afgan says, "You know, I have just one question about what I have seen in America."
The American says "Well your Excellency, anything I can do to help you I will do."
The Afghan whispers "My son watches this show 'Star Trek' and in it there are Russians and Blacks and Asians, but never any Arabs. He is very upset. He doesn't understand why there are never any Arabs in Star Trek."
The American laughs and leans over. "That's because it takes place in the future."
Yeah... You're right. My bad.
The 'Borg' then.
(although I always thought of them as space-democrats)
I'm thinking the space-arabs would be about 25% Klingon, 50% Ferrangi, and 25% of a various assorment of space junk.
Of course, the point is probably moot, because what the odds of making it to the 24th century as long as they continue to worship Satan (Allah)?
Pretty much nil.
A secular humanist would call them 'an evolutionary dead-end'.
Borg-as-democrat is such a natural metaphor.
They're mindless, collectivist, amoral destroyers of entire civilizations.
You know, like the Borg...
'Twas I who made the first connection to the Borg way back when during the McCain-Daschle meeting in Arizona. My protest sign read: "McBorg Has Been Assimilated". It was quoted in a NY Times story (my proudest FReeper moment).
Let me assure all that I have no territorial demands in this arena. I don't claim primacy here.
I will suggest a Jungian possibility though...
That the borg-as-democrat metaphor is so perfect that it has lit a million light bulbs over a million heads.
Could it have been intentional?
