Fix Poverty With Suicide - 31 December 2001

Your typical "poor" and "starving" person in the United States has a VCR, cable TV, possibly a car, books, CDs, a fridge filled with junk food, and other consumer goods. I cannot understand how, with all of these electronic gadgets and extras in the home of a poor person, liberals manage to justify the existence of welfare.

Its amazing how many welfare slobs find the time to frequent online chat rooms and download tons and tons of pornography. I frequent a few politically-oriented forums, and encountered two welfare recipients, and conversed with them regularly.

The first is a Canadian from Vancouver, BC. He claims that because he cant find a decent-paying computer job, he should not settle for something with less prestige and pay, and ought to be protected by the government for it.

He goes on to say that he's worked jobs that paid sixteen dollars an hour, that he claims is worth eighty an hour, therefore, he says, he is ripped off by working. I mentioned to him that I worked, paid for myself, and took care of my expenses, and asked why he could not do the same. After a long pause, he finally told me that I was supporting a Jewish power conspiracy and I was a tool of the greedy wealthy Jews.

I did not see that one coming. He also claims that UFOs are operated by CIA agents who abduct people and abuse them, erasing their memories but leaving behind physical scars. He introduced me to what he claimed was free energy, and explained to me how to design my own levitating home-made UFO.

That's fantastic! He has a hobby!

After a week of conversing with this gentleman on and off, I discovered that his daily routine was chatting and surfing the web until 5am, waking up at 3pm, smoking pot, and continuing the process again.

I asked him when he would return to work, and he told me there was no work, none, in the entire city of Vancouver. Not convinced, I visited a Canadian job search web site, and found for him twenty-two positions paying above minimum wage that required no education and no experience. He said all of them were bad jobs, even a security position I recommended to him, which required patrolling a parking lot in the evenings in a little car and getting paid nine dollars an hour.

Eventually I gave up. I realized that all of the jobs I found for him probably required a brain.

The second person, a welfare recipient and computer programmer from somewhere eastward, said he was a victim of social conditions. His story is a sad one, until you ask yourself why he got where he did.

He said he suffered from severe mental illness and was unable to focus. That left me perplexed, since he was able to carry out an eloquent and coherent conversation on the Internet for hours. That was his prime reason for collecting welfare and not working.

He then added that he spent a few years in jail, for having child pornography. He never claimed he was innocent, and instead tried to explain to me why all fathers wanted to have sex with their underage daughters, and why it is biologically and historically natural for adults and children to have sex.

To be released early, he said he accepted chemical castration, which severely affected his health. He called himself a victim of the drug Lupron.

Sorry, but for child pornography, you are not and never will be a victim of anything, ever.

I then offered him two hundred dollars to utilize his programming skills and write a quick program for my handheld computer, which would turn out to be thirty to forty dollars per hour. He denied my offer, saying he was too upset to focus, or rather, to lazy and undisciplined to finish an assigned task.

I asked him to take his own life, and ceased conversing with him.

While most welfare recipients and "poor" Americans have the luxury of VCRs and cable, the two pathetic schmucks I spoke with had computers with Internet access. Both of them refused work not out of disability, but out of arrogance and apathy.

Clinton did not sign welfare reform into law. Real welfare reform is the complete elimination of this hideous, expensive, and ridiculous program. It keeps worthless people like those two idiots alive and healthy, while it puts a strain on the productive members of society.

But how do you fix poverty? Like for the child-sex pervert I conversed with, I recommend suicide.

If you don't take care of yourself, you are a burden to somebody else...

ALWAYS!

One of my jobs is at a video rental. I also sell cigarettes at the same counter. I will also check out a small amount of groceries. It irks me to have these individuals buy these name brand foods and junk foods with their Access card and then fork over almost 4.00 each for one or more packs of cigs. Oh, sometimes they will rent video's at 3.00 a pop also.

I have no doubt that some people will probably remain poor all of their lives, simply because they refuse to spend less than they earn. The good side of this is that simple economics enforces a prudent social policy.

The solution proposed to answer poverty with suicide indicates the author is simply guilty of worldly sins. Her god is how to live within an worldly establishment by its laws rather than those of God. Why else would she suggest an eternal separation from Him, especially since He has already paid for the sins of man?

America has the riches poor people in the world! The one thing these folks are good at, is making excuses. People risk their lives to get into this country to wash dishes, dig ditches, ect. Here we have home grown natives, given every opportunity-and yet they can not keep their heads above water. I'm tired of supporting them.

This guy is hard hitting.

The answer to the welfare problem is complex. For example, who is the average welfare recipient? Some lazy, fat, thirty-something person with a fifth-grade literacy level (yet she can quote you the welfare laws verbatim) , buying 96 ounce slurpees, smokes and lotto tickets in line ahead of you (and ten other people) at the Seven-Eleven ? Nope. Four out of five welfare recipients are children.

Some things are obvious: The best chance for success is a sound education and work skills in a field that society values. Also, a person needs a sound work ethic. "Arbeit macht frei" as the Germans called it.

Suicide is not the answer. How about a method where the name, home phone, address and recent photo of all welfare recipients are published weekly in the local paper? This would be, IMHO, a profound motivator to get people off the welfare roles.

The Merriam Webster Ditionary -- Poverty: 1. lack of money or material possesions

My definition and the Dictionary's definition do agree. The two people you describe do not fit the meaning of poverty.

The two dudes are just lazy.

Indeed. My parents came to the US with no money, nothing, and had the burden of my starving drooling 1 year old arse on top of that. They were educated, but my father's chemistry degree from India was rather useless in the post-Carter economy of 1981.

They worked their tails off and joined the upper middle class of America.

Welfare bums are an insult to our freedom, and the people who died to preserve it.
