Your information is a bit off...actually, Pak has about 30-40 nuclear warheads (gravity bombs and missile warheads), while India has 10-15, all aircraft-dropped gravity bombs. More disturbingly, Pakistan generally keeps its nukes at a higher state of alert, and has more delivery options (missiles and aircraft) versus aircraft-only for India. You are correct about India's overwhelming superiority in conventional arms--something that could prompt Pakistan to "go nuclear" fairly early in a conflict...as far as survival, a nuclear strike would kill about 4 million people on both sides during the first 30 days, scary stuff indeed...

Are you sure about that. There was an article on FR earlier citing the raw nuclear material in each country and how many bombs each country could make.

Sorry, but your numbers are quite wrong. India has 60-100 warheads and very effective misslile delivery systems. With problems in Afgan, Pakistan has been forced to move warheads from a forward deployed situation.

India also has much better "generalship."

India has far more than "10 -15" against Pakistan's "30-40". India's nuclear capability was initially developed with China in mind.

"More disturbingly, Pakistan generally keeps its nukes at a higher state of alert"

They told the US that they'd dismantled them before the "situation" started, and moved the key parts to different locations. That was their response to our "offer" to take control of their stockpile.

I think Pakistan has gun-type uranium bombs whereas India has at least pancake booster bombs, the gun type bombs are pretty likely to work, where the booster bombs might work, might not... so the calculations of who might win get trickier...I really hope that they back down. This talk of "surviving" is very dangerous. We "survived" 40 years of cold war because we didn't think we could win, and really, neither did Russia.
