Musharraf has to purge the ISI and soon, or this is going to spin out of control.India has just told him to do that, in a very oblique way, or face the end of his regime. This tightrope Musharraf has walked with the ISI and forces hostile to him and the West in his own government is about to come undone, unless he REALLY plays the strongman. Its him or them.

Hope the Pakis are pooping their pants tonight, because I'm just about pooping mine.

I'm hoping that war does happen over for one reason... A stray nuke or two might find it's way into Osama's Hide Out. Besides, if Nuclear War spreads it can only get rid of people who would eventually grow up to hate America anyway.

I thought Pakistan said that they agreed not to use them, is this India's way of saving face?

Speaking of China, I imagine they have a lot to fear along with SE Asia due to the prevailing winds. I'm surprised they are not a little more aggressive in reducing the rhetoric.

What idiots!!!! nobody survives a nuclear war

OK this story is really flimsy. First of all what official in the Indian government said this. Countries aren't people and you can't attribute quotes to whole countries. Is this going to be another sensationalist story that goes like this: a top Indian government official said that India can survive a nuclear war. The quote is so off the record, or fabricrated that it isn't attributed to anyone.

"There will be no nuclear war, at least not right now." Sounds fine to me.

why? As long as China stays clear no need to worry You're kidding! We don't need this, especially with a manhunt for Osama going on. As long as China stays clear?? Nobody models a nuclear war. (OK, we nuked Japan in '45, but we were the only nuclear power in the world at the time. Escalation and/or spread were not issues.)

China supplies Pakistan. Has for years....

Sorry, but thanks to the Clintonese allies known as "China" they were able to acquire medium range missles and the delivery technology during the 1994-1999 time span. They not only have the warheads but the delivery system to wipe New Delhi off the map. Sad but true, the great Fornicator haunts us in every aspect of war, peace, and prosperity even into the new year.

India's best chance for a pro-western Pakistan that is cracking down on Islamic terrorists and fundamentalists is with General Musharraf in control. They seem to have dismissed this fact in their recent military actions.
Either that, or all this is bluff for domestic political consumption. I'm hoping it's the latter.
I hope and assume that the Bush Administration is telling India in no uncertain terms that an invasion of Pakistan would not be appreciated or supported.
Airstrikes on suspected Kashmiri terrorist bases would be fine. It would actually be helpful. But a frontal assault on the Musharraf government and army would be a reckless and foolish act.

I really admire Musharref. Unfortunately he is like Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest - he is surrounded by loonies and sadists. I dont know if he can keep this ship afloat.
As for the Indians (oops can we still call them that - oh, yeah, THOSE Indians dont mind!), they are right that they could survive, but it would be a heck of a mess, lots of folks would have to re-enter the wheel of life to pay for past sins and all that.
I expect the Budhists to manufacture a new god for just this occasion! Now that is a flexible belief system.

I doubt it. The balloon is probably going to go up... Real WAR... WW3 variety, in the middle east, spreading to the Far East in China's greed... to taiwan, korea and japan... And with the current Arab "we are the victims" mindset... attacking non-muslim/arab states will be seen as "in order"... Turkey and even Kuwait... are in danger.
Will Russia be able to sit this out, or will China and -or Iraq attack them as allies to the WEST?
Will their be any viable muslim nations left after we begin recovery from the World's second major use of nukes in a military conflict, in a world war theatre??? Probably a few. We will target pinpoints with accuracy using tactical nukes. How many free nations of this planet do not already have at least ONE american military outpost with deployable tacticals? I can only guess... not many.
The question is, where will the USA be on this? Our guys are already here, there, everywhere... and we will NOT stand still for any incidental deaths of our guys. Who will WE nuke? China? Pakistan? Iraq? and What about the Israeli's and their alliance with Turkey? Will Turkey and Israel sit on their hands while the Arab/Muslim war of martyrs targets their population centers and infrastructures? Not likely.
We have got us one huge multi-lateral minefield out there right now. How many Al Queda "underground terroristas" are operating here in the USA? Who believes that the alqueda is the only group who wants to do bad things to Freedom lovers Earthwide? Can I see a show of hands who believe they are the only, even the "primary" terorists? I thought not.
Islam. What a great world religion? The whack-job, Muslim world aches for the end of time when their false god allah, sets the WHOLE world under the legalistic force of their brand of Islam... They have been and currently ARE trying to provoke this end time nightmare scenario. They are self-fulfilling prophets of doom. I think they will be both surprised and terrified by the outcome. Allah will not save them.
Truth is, I don't think their god is going to pull it off for them. Can I see another show of hands who believes THEIR phony god is going to save them? What, no takers? I think we all know that they will fry without mercy, along with their sand-piles rife with camel dung all too soon.
The UN and the hidden alliances of terror may not survive in any viable fashion. This may indeed precipitate a complete re-alignment of the world's pecking order under the principles of democracy, led by the USA as a pattern and cheif enforcer. Religious "theocracy" prophets of doom will not make it into the middle of this next century. Freedom of speech may not be the same thing as, freedom of insanity...
Maybe we can then get on with 1000 years of pax americana. It can all fit a "biblical pattern," for the Western/Christian mindset, howbeit not the way the glory hallers may have thought...
I think they are gonna "just push play" as per Steven Tyler's latest release... "we're goin' in, we're goin'!!!"
I wish not, but I think so, the pot is boiling over.
It's gonna catch fire soon.
