We should use Islamofascism (which I first saw used by Andrew Sullivan) and Islamo-Leftism interchangeably.
Starting in 1989, as the USSR collapsed, The New York Times and other newspapers that take themselves seriously started referring to old-line Russian Communists as "conservatives." Castro still has the respect of these liberal ideologues, but that's because he's still in power, jailing his opponents, which they admire.
In other words, these political terms tend to be used at the left's convenience.
