The Philistines were not Canaanite. They came from Greece. They were European invaders. --------------- The Jews were not Canaanites, they were intruders from what is now Iraq coming after the Philistines.
But more specifically the Canaanites were destroyed according to G-d's will for their evil(idol worship, child sacrifice,etc). The land was ultimately bequeathed to G-d's chosen people the Israelites, if they would follow His Law.
