AIDS Activist Undergoes Liver Transplant Surgery
Houston Chronicle ^ | December 24, 2001

PITTSBURGH -- AIDS activist, author and playwright Larry Kramer underwent liver transplant surgery and was listed in serious condition Monday.

Kramer's doctors said his condition was improving and was about where it should be after the 12-hour surgery Friday.

Kramer, 66, spent seven months on the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's waiting list. He moved to Pittsburgh in early November to wait for an organ to become available. While many transplant centers oppose the surgery for HIV-positive patients, UPMC's Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute has performed 10 liver transplants on HIV-positive patients since 1997. Eight of the patients have survived. Kramer's HIV has been relatively well controlled, but he suffered from end-stage liver failure caused by hepatitis B.

"...Quit stalking me..."

You posted to me first...

Aren't you the one who's been stalking me?

Actually, with Peep, it's more like 'The Exorcist'...

Yeah... I'd promised the kids earlier in the week that we'd all stay up, pop some popcorn and watch some of the movies that they got for Christmas on Saturday night...

I was able to divide my attention between the movies and FR for awhile, then focused on the films (until 2:00 am) before reaching the point where I had to bail out.

The upside was that I was so tired I was asleep before my head hit the pillow. I didn't have a single nightmare with a bizarre unrequited love or organ harvesting theme.

"...Responding to your posts is NOT stalking. Continuing to post messages to you after you stopped responding and following you to other threads would be considered stalking. I have done the former and not the latter. Do you understand or do I need to explain the term in simpler terms?..."

Peep, when you post to me, I'll post back to you if it pleases me to do it.

Don't want a reply? Don't post me.

Simple enough?

"...So, do you understand that I was not stalking you?..."

No, you're stalking me...

But you're (probably) harmless, so it doesn't worry me.

Peep believes in voluntary organ donations and everyone should be forced to volunteer.

"...I have done the former (not stalking) and not done the latter (stalking). To claim otherwise would be a lie..."

No Peep.

Not a 'lie'. (you seem to have a lot of trouble sorting out the meaning of that word)

Your definition of 'stalking', like your philosophy of life, is incorrect.

You've 'cut to the heart of the matter', phil!

Hey, if 'Molon Labe!' means 'come and get (my weapon)', how would you say: 'Come and get my liver!' in classical Greek?

"...I have never argued in favor of forced organ donation. Lie #2..."

Bless your heart, Peep... I have no idea whether this is true or not.

In fact, I wouldn't call this the 'money bet' at all.

At this point, trying to sort out what is true and what isn't true with you is hopeless.

This thread is ridiculous. If I waded through the garbage correctly, one poster opposes organ donation because they might end up helping gays with HIV. The other poster likes the idea of voluntary organ donation to whomever donor receives them. Then name-calling started and nobody would grow up and get over it. Stop it, this is sophomoric, to say the least. And this is my last post on this thread because.... it's too ridiculous.
