DANIA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A bullet found outside a gate at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport prompted authorities to evacuate a busy concourse Monday, delaying flights up to three hours.
A passenger discovered the small-caliber bullet at about 7:40 a.m. outside the gate leading to Spirit Airlines Flight 604 to New York's LaGuardia Airport, FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said.
The passenger alerted sheriff's deputies who were providing security at the airport. Deputies evacuated the concourse and searched for weapons using dogs but found nothing, Orihuela said. No arrests were made.
Police searched the bags of passengers on Flight 604, and two planes loaded with passengers awaiting takeoff were ordered back to the terminal.
Airport spokesman Jim Reynolds said the concourse reopened after about two hours, but some flights were running about three hours late.
``This will have a ripple effect throughout the day,'' Reynolds said. ``Fortunately, this is not the most heavily traveled day of the holidays. These are last-minute travelers.''
Exactly!!! You seem to be the first to have posted that point. It goes to show how galatically stupid the press is and why they couldn't find their @$$ with both hands.
We have become Over-reaction Nation - it happened long before September 11th. Can anyone remember when we let the pussies start running things? Its like that third grade snitch girl ("I'm tellin' the teacher"), the one who turned you in for just sneezing or farting, is in charge now.
I have a suggestion. Lets throw all the politicians, librarians, and school officials out of their offices/positions and start over with REAL MEN AND REAL WOMEN.
Try flying on a one way ticket. You are automatically called out for extra frisking and search at the gate.
I will not be flying again until some sort of common sense (I know, it's not so common) is being used.
Just my two-cents.
You forgot the real problem here, the lawyers! Hey, one of the 9-11 victims' survivors is suing one of the airlines after all.
Great Post!!.. Bumping for comments...

This is asinine...I wonder if the idjit journalist writing this knows the difference between a bullet and a round of ammunition.
My questions. Was it just a "bullet", was it fired (had rifling grooves engraved on it) was it just an unfired bullet that someone had in their pocket, or an unfired round of ammunition....Now, since they have the National Guard at airports now, could it have been a round of 5.56mm SS109 green tip that one of them dropped? Or a .22LR that someone found, or had in their pockets...
I happen to have a "Magic Bullet" keychain, with a "pristine" 6.5mm RN with rifling marks engraved, attached to the keychain. It's an Arlen Specter spoof..but can you imagine what would happen if I accidentally took that darn keychain through security???? ROTFLMAO.
Will get some postcards off to you during this Christmas season...
