Mosque site contains Jewish tombs

JERUSALEM (December 24) - The area in which Muslim activists are building a mosque near the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth contains Jewish tombs, according to Christians protesting the project.

The demonstrators, who stood outside the Prime Minister's Office yesterday, said that during a visit on Saturday, they saw the entrance to at least one tomb as bulldozers carted away dressed stones and other archeological remains.

"They left antiquities in plain view," said Stephen Pfann, an archeologist and president of the University of the Holy Land, a center for the study of early Christianity.

He said that he saw clear evidence of a columbarium, a burial area with niches for individual bones. The entire area in which the construction is taking place had been a Jewish burial place from the first to the fifth centuries CE, he added.

Pfann said Muslim leaders at the building site threatened the visitors and members of the group had lodged a complaint with the police.

The "peaceful religion" continues to spread Pax Islamica by trashing the artifacts of other religions.

This is the norm for the Muslims. They always do their psycho best to trash the religious shrines of others. They pick up tons of bad luck and bad Karma from doing this.

This is why they remain in poverty and ignorance. It's a divine punishment.

These "people" (I guess they're people) never fail to disgust me. No respect whatsoever for Christians, Jews, and all other so-called 'infidels.'

look, they're trying to change our reference to time. This article says 'first to fifth centuries CE'. That should read 'first to fifth centuries AD' instead.

Those chiefly responsible for this are not the Arabs, but Ehud Barak and bill clinton (who personally deposed Netanyahu and installed Barak in office).

Barak gave permission for this project to go ahead, although Arafat, the Palestinian Authority, and even Saudi Arabia argued against it as an unnecessary provocation to Christians in the area. (And of course clinton never missed an opportunity to act against the interests of Christians abroad.) Barak acted as he did with the greatest cynicism, in order to divine Muslim and Christian Arabs against each other.

The main thing is that there is no reason whatever to build a mosque in this spot, except as a way of overshadowing a major Christian church.

I don't know why Sharon has refrained from stopping the building, but probably it's because he thinks it would anger the Arabs unnecessarily for the government to give permission and then take it away again. Also, although he is a more decent man than Barak, he may agree that to have the Muslims angering the Christians may be a good thing for Israel. I disagree. The buck stops with him now, so he must now take responsibility for desecrating the Temple and the Church of the Annunciation, whoever first issued the permits.

24/7/365 the more aggressive Muslims are busy thinking how they can dominate others. What they can do to trash other religions. This is why/when push comes to shove/you just nuke Mecca and Medina and they fold up like a cardboard box. They would just go about their benighted, impoverished lives without bothering others anymore.

Your real criticism should be directed at the Jewish leaders of Israel for allowing this to occur. Defiling the religious sites of others is something which comes naturally to the Muslim. It is up to the Jew to show them a different way....permanently.

You're right. Furthermore, Arafat wants to attend Christmas Mass in Bethlehem to further curry favor with my Pope. Arafat has attended Chrstimas Mass for that very reason since 1995.

I pray, our Israeli (read: Jewish) brothers arrest the terrorist on sight or at least on site!

"CE" refers to Christian Era. Common in other parts of teh world.

Other religions, especially Judiasm, do not appreciate the symbolism of "In The Year of Our Lord".

It's all part of their plan to destroy any archeological evidence that any religion besides Islam existed in Israel.

Sharon is against the building of their damn mosque. I think he will make good on his threat to arrest Arafat.

My Pope is the one who must call a halt to the construction of the damn mosque, and the destruction of both of our religious sites.

On the History Channel on Friday night there was a program about the bible and archeological digs in Jerusalem. The Temple Mount, where the golden domed mosque is situated, sits on archeological artifacts that the Palestinian Authority is destroying. The report indicated that the work is going forth without the proper permits. The PLA says that they are just doing some "maintenance" work. The refuse has been scoured and found to be "rich" in archeological material.

It appears that Islam is all about destruction in every venue that doesn't meet their needs!

CE refers to Common Era, a PC attempt at making the Christian calendar secular.
