I didn't learn how to pray just the right way... before I had faith. As a new Christian... I just believed He was... who He said He was.... and got my prayers answered consistently. It's when I started listening to all the "prerequisites" that other Christians deemed necessary to prayer, that I got bogged down in my prayer life for the first time. *chuckle* James 1:6-8.

It was not my intent to "twist" your words..

What if God had said no and had not given you what you wanted. Would you have failed to believe then? Was your faith based on God meeting your needs?

My question was based on that ..Did your prayer change God's plan? Or were your prayers in line with God's plan?

An example..You want the promotion at work so you pray for it..God has a plan that you will relocate to Buffalo so you can become involved in a certain ministry. ..Now the choice...does God answer your "faith " prayer..and change His plan just to please you? Or does he refuse your prayer request so you will be available to move next spring?

Would you still believe in Him ?

If God bends over to please you and meet your need who is God you or Him?

We can pray for God's will to be done 24/7 but, unless we are in obedience to His word, His will can be cast aside and neglected. God's will for us does not change but we can change how and if His will is carried out in our lives. How? Through lack of faith, obedience, etc. He does not force His will upon anyone. He asks that we seek it but never, does He force it. Ultimately it is up to us to be in His will.

Look at His prayer:

Hallowed be thy name

May we keep God's name holy May we always remember that God is holy, and that we may show Him reverence that He deserves.

Thy Kingdom Come: God's Kingdom comes to us when our heavenly Father gives us His Holy Spirit. May God be Lord in our life May we seek His kingdom first

Thy will be done:

We pray for God's intervention in things of the World, Satan, and our sinful nature that is contrary to His perfect will. We MUST surrender to God's will, and ask that He help us do His will. May God lead us, and show us his will for our specific situation. May God give us the courage, strength, and power to do that which He shows us.

Give us this day our daily bread:

We depend on God for our temporal needs We are thankful for ways in which He meets those needs God is faithful, we do not need to worry about those needs .

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us:

I recognize my need for forgiveness, and my failures and understand the source of weakness in others. We as that God forgive us, and not deny our prayer because of them. We will strive to sincerely forgive and gladly do good to those who sin against us. God expects us to forgive each other, and will help us if we ask.

Lead us not into temptation: We are asking God to lead us away from temptation, for we are weak, we have surrendered to God, and ask that He save us from ourselves.

We pray that God would guard and keep us so that Devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, shame, and vice.

Deliver us from evil:

May God protect us from Satan, and all evil to the body and soul.

Yes, this is a "perfect" prayer but as in all prayer we must be willing to commit BY FAITH to what we are asking. While giving this prayer as a model of how to pray we must also read further into the chapter for more clarification on asking and receiving. Jesus, in Luke 11:5-13 expounds upon prayer. He does not leave it as simple as reciting a form prayer.

Why would you assume that I wouldn't accept a "No" as readily as a "yes"? Why does it bother anyone that I got my prayers answered as a new Christian... regardless of how I prayed? Couldn't you just rejoice with me?

My question was based on that ..Did your prayer change God's plan? Or were your prayers in line with God's plan?

Well...let's see...When God showed me that my husband was going to be killed in a plane crash... then put a burden on my heart to intercede for him several weeks before the actual crash, it might have had something to do with saving his life, but I doubt his untimely death would've been in God's plan anyway. (More like Satan having been sidetracked in his plan to steal, kill and destroy)......When I prayed for provision to put food on the table and keep the electricity on....while the hubby was recovering... I don't think I went against His plan, do you? When I asked for his healing when the Dr.'s said he'd never walk again...and he walked out of the hospital under his own power...8 days later....I don't think I subverted His plan there, either. When I needed transportation to get to work (and received that)... so I could feed/clothe my family... I don't think it was out of His Will or plan for my life. When I prayed for my athiest Dad's salvation and was awakened in the middle of the night by the Holy Spirit to go pray with him on his deathbed (which resulted in his accepting Christ in the final 4 hrs of his life) I don't think it bent His plan out of shape... do you? (Oops.. according to some on this board... my Dad's acceptance of Christ wouldn't be valid... because it was a woman ministering to a man! *gasp*) Should I go on? I have LOTS.

Do you sit in one place ...afraid to move forward for fear that you'll miss God's Will or plan for you? Or do you move forward with the desire He's put upon your heart...asking that He close the doors that need to be shut and open the ones that need to be open... so that you'll keep on track?

You know...this is really rich. First we are discussing Joyce Meyer's right to preach/teach...and now we're into judging each other's heart, faith and prayer life. Sad, sad, SAD.
