Even funnier was an incident that really happened in San Francisco. A would-be robber stood in line at a bank with a hold-up note he had written on a deposit slip. He got tired of waiting in line, so he went down the street to another bank and handed the note to a teller. She apparently sized him up as a doofus because she told him she couldn't honor his note since it was written on a deposit slip from the other bank. She recommended he take it back to the 1st bank, which he did. After he left her bank she called the police who were there to greet him at the 1st bank as he handed his note to the teller. Too funny.
I can't personally vouch for the veracity of this story, but it was told as a true story in a nationally circulated magazine.
It is all over the net. None of the postings will list the source, though.
Good believable story. It is up their with my favorite where a burglar was caught breaking into the same house to steal the remote control he had forgotten for the television he had stolen in a previous break in.
