It is certainly true that an excellent measure of freedom in a country is the measure of equality afforded women. Interestingly enough it is also a measure of prosperity. Countries that have the higherst levels of freedom for women also have the highest levels of economic prosperity and progress. This holds true for third world countries that have embraced women's rights as part of their agenda. Where girls are educated people thrive.
What is important here is that women are a natural cultural balance to male procivities to violence and other vices.
Islam is so behind the 8 ball of cultural evolution, that from a macrocosmic point of view I see no real remedy at hand except to realise that the huddled masses in the Mideast will be at our doorstep, like paupers begging at the iron gates of a gated community.
