I'm female and I didn't think their 'female jokes' were funny either. I got the impression that most of the women they queried were probably British, judging by the jokes selected. They also didn't seem to bolster the theory of linguistic superiority, BTW. They were lame.
The author implied men favored jokes which put down women, but then cited the top jokes among men- none of which put down women, BTW. Nor were they particularly 'aggressive.'
I take it back- probably Aussies, not Brits.
