Were the Twin Towers villains alive they would surely be chortling as Bush, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, et al, now devastate the larger edifice of our democracy. Executive orders now replace legislative process. War powers are usurped by the president though the Constitution clearly reposes them in the Congress.
Military tribunals, secret trials and executions, abridgment of lawyer/ client rights, midnight raids by paramilitary teams, persons held incommunicado at the convenience of the prosecution - what next in this course of self-destruction?
Meanwhile the government extracts billions from our treasury to support the corporate plutocracy that makes it all possible. This is the pursuit of Justice?
My America the beautiful is beginning to lose her good looks
TOPICS: Editorial; Foreign Affairs
KEYWORDS:
Ithaca (the City of Evil): one of the only places left on earth where this sort of paranoid, anti-corporate nonsense can still get a serious airing.

I've just interviewed for a position in Ithaca. Actually looks like quite a good job.
After all I've heard here at FR, I surely won't be living anywhere near the city.
Recommendations among any of the small villes in that area?

The liberal community there rivals San Fran, Provincetown, Soho etc. And wait till you get a gander at these animals. The ugliest skankiest smelly looking excuses for humans you would want to see. A psychologist would have a fieldday with them. Kind of like going against the grain of the world as a subliminal protest to their inability to assimilate due to genetic factors.

Seems this could have been written during the Clinton administration with the deletion of the military tribunals.

Stay out of Tompkins County ENTIRELY. At this point the entire county is largely controlled by far-left Democrats and the taxes, etc., reflect it. Your best bet is the Interlaken/Covert area about 20 min to the North of Ithaca on Rt 96, which is in Seneca County (a republican stronghold). Or go North-West on Rt 13 towards Cortland. Finally, recognize that the simple act of working in Ithaca will mean you are surrounded by socialists on a daily basis.

Executive orders now replace legislative process. "Stroke of the pen, law of the land. Pretty cool." --Paul Begala regarding a Clinton EO.

These filthy hypocrites are unbeliveable. I may not like all of what Bush has done. But he has followed the Constitution to the letter on these issues. Where were these pompous bags of snot when the Commie Traitor Klintoon was using our sacred document for toilet paper.

Well, if I do get the job, you certainly simplified where to look for a house.
And I think Syracuse sucks!!??

I love this quote -- as if the treasury grows money like a crop that the "corporate plutocracy" is raiding. Liberals really do think money grows on trees and corporations pay no federal taxes.

I spoke to a friend who went to Cornell and he loved the city. He said there's a real chasm between the Aggies there and the college itself... like night and day, so they aren't ALL bad there. Aggies are real people.

They were all squatting in the same outhouse together.

so, ...where does the $$$ come from?
It comes from the Fed, who prints it up and "loans" it to the Treasury, who promptly disposes of it through "deficit spending". Needless to say, it is you who pays back both the principal and interest. Interest, compounding interest. Why do we pay interest for manufactured scrip?
