Suspected Islamic militants have thrown a grenade into a crowded market in Jammu-Kashmir, killing one person and injuring at least 60
The grenade was thrown at police and paramilitary troops on patrol near the market in Pulwama, 20 miles south of Srinagar.
The grenade missed the target and exploded in the market, crowded with shoppers, killing a civilian instantly.
Flying shrapnel wounded 60 others, some critically, said police.
Five soldiers of the paramilitary Border Security Force and two Kashmir police constables are among the injured.
Elsewhere in Jammu-Kashmir, 11 militants were killed in three shootouts with security forces, police said.
Three members of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, one of several groups fighting to separate Kashmir from India, were killed in a gun battle near Achhabal.
In Baramullah, three Lashkar-e-Tayyaba militants were killed and three security troops were injured when the guerrillas opened fire on the troops, police said.
Two militants were killed in Bazipora and three were killed in Sopore, in separate shootouts between militants and security forces, police said.
In Sopore, near Baramullah, three militants were killed when they attacked an army patrol, police said, adding that an army captain and a soldier were injured in the gunbattle.
