Really I've got an Athlon 600Mhz 384MB Ram and a GeForce 2 MX-400.
I don't have a huge tollerance for poor performance though. I recently got Commanche 4 (it said minimum 400 Mhz) and it ran like crap - unplayable.
Ghost Recon said something like 450Mhz minimum and so I was afraid it wouldn't run?
I haven't run into an performance problems in any of the games. I have a PIII 500 with a Viper 550.
I'm just starting the Ghost Recon missions and so far I haven't noticed any performance problems.
I tried the IL-2 Sturmovik demo and it's unplayable on my system. Too bad cuz it looks like a great flight sim.
oooooooooooo...... you got Commanche 4??? I've been waiting soooooooo long for that one, and I just happen to know that it's under the tree at my house right now!! One more week......must....wait....one...more...week!!!! So give me a run down on how it compares to Commanche 3 and 3 Gold!!
Ghost Recon is a great game. The fact that people already are making scenarios for this independently is a real bonus too because the game only has 15 missions - I shouldn't say "only" because they are not an easy 15 missions.
I would suggest that you have at least a
NVIDIA 32mb GeForce2 card to play this game - if you do have one, update the driver too to get the best performance. I do not know about CPU speed for the machine as I am using a 1Ghz Athlon but the game is graphically intensive and you need a good video card just to get the detail that the game offers. I would suggest picking up one if you don't have a good card already(they go for about $70 with most on-line retailers). If you do have a 450mhz processor, make sure you have the max amount of memory that you can get in your machine - with RAM prices so cheap, it is a sin to NOT take advantage.
Crucial.com is the place for that - lifetime guarantee and no hassle returns. (I don't often recommend companies but Crucial has been great to me). This should help your PC deal with the game and cut down the time it takes to access the hard drive.
The game takes less planning that Rainbow Six and it relies on you "thinking on your feet" much more. This simplified start-up might make a lot of gamers a lot happier. It also deals with more "outdoor" covert op's instead of indoor actions. I find that running down winding corridors makes me sick to the stomach - a reaction that some people have to such games
If you are looking for "more zombies" on each "level" you will be highly disappointed and I would suggest getting an X-box and getting HALO or getting Diablo II - both are games that friends have recommended. If you are looking for something that is more "realistic," Ghost Recon is the game for you.
You will not be disappointed with Ghost Recon if you like realism based games. The fact that you can play it on line makes it great also - although I haven't tried to do this yet. There are a bunch of fan sites out there too and it seems that more are coming each day - do a search on Google to find them - so when you are done with the first 15 missions, go and download a mission someone created - or create your own if you feel up to the task.
