DU discusses libertarianism. I thought some of you might find this interesting:
The adults don't need as much supervision.
Love it! A new term, I've not heard before. Thanks, I will be using it.
There ought to be a link to that thread somewhere on the FR homepage. It would be like having a head on a stick displayed ouside the village's front gate, just to let the DUmbunnies know what kind of greeting they can expect if they post something silly like that over here.
Anyway, thanks for posting the links to those great threads, sweetliberty -- I really enjoyed them.
That's great, I think I remember you now. Didn't you used to write for Cosmopolitan? Such wit has never been matched in the rest of Western Civilization. Ok, Bazooka Joe, maybe...
Your entire reply is so well put. I just felt like repeating part of it here.
Yeah, but where are Dennis Hopper and Marlon Brando? What about Joseph Conrad? Never get out of the boat.
The thing that blows my mind is that liberals think they're clever, but it is abundantly clear to me -- and I think I have come to this conclusion objectively -- that, generally speaking, conservatives show more cunning in their use of language.
I can't take credit for the words, they come from someone much greater than I. However, they are so fitting that I, too, wanted to repeat them.
Hey! Don't you know that it's not what you put in your mouth that makes you filthy, it's what comes OUT of your mouth, because out of your mouth flows the abundance of your heart.
Care to elaborate? That's a completely meaningless statement.
I've never understood the mentality of someone who has to resort to complete lies in order to make a point. What pleasure do you take in portraying libertarians in such a false light? If you can't make your point by being honest, you don't have a leg to stand on.
How can you expect Kev not to write about the subjects that fill his every thought?
All feminists are feminine.
Yes, and I suppose you believe DEBKA-ka reports, too.
Another brilliant (no, genius) rhetorical gem from VA Avocado.
They talk about compassion and helping people, but unless they're forced to do it through taxes, they won't and they know that no one else will either.
Just look at the "Tax Me More" fund in Arkansas. For all the chest thumping from the liberals about "we need this" and "we need that" the fund has gathered only $260. Evidently, they care about those needs only to the extent that they can make someone else pay for it.
some libertarians at least. those who believe in god and believe that they must answer to god's laws are not welcome at du. in fact, my humble observation is that these folks are good citizens who want to keep government out of the way and not in violation of god's laws.
the du, on the other hand, loves people who make laws for others and then lacks the self discipline to follow those same laws. in fact, du people do not want to follow man made laws or god given laws. in my humble opinion some libertarians do not want government laws simply because they lack the discipline to follow any law, god given or man made.
Mind you, a gay friend of mine chased off some gay-bashers by improvising a flame-thrower with a cigarette lighter and a can of hairspray. And following that up with a Bette Davis imitation.
He's eventually come around to being against gun control. After all, not every gay man is a hairdresser who smokes. And some of them prefer Judy Garland.
Excellent point. There was a local columnist, here in Gainesville, who once wrote that tobacco, alcohol, and caffeine were the real "gateway" drugs to the hard stuff and should be banned. Pot, on the other hand, was perfectly safe, he said. I think that ranks on my top five list for most idiotic columns I've ever read.
And I note that, as I write this, I have just arrived at work. I drank a KMX on the way over and have just opened a 2 L bottle of Mountain Dew Code Red to get me through the day. As I used as my .sig line, for a while, "They will take my caffeine, when they pry it from my dead, cold, frosty, refreshing hands."
