-SNIP-Ominously, the Abu Dhabi series reflects the mainstreaming of anti-Semitism across the Arab world. Saudi Arabian and Egyptian TV are debating whether to air a 30-part miniseries, "Horseman Without a Horse," which is based on the debunked canard "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," an early 20th century hoax by the Russian czar's secret police that purported to reveal a Jewish plan to dominate the world. The book, a virtual prescription for genocide, has been invoked by every Jew hater from Adolf Hitler to Louis Farrakhan. THE REST HERE ...

Newbie, Are you another one of those Einsatzgruppen trolls or are you just a standard disrupter who enjoys kicking the anthill? By the way, you are wrong about this enlightened (anti-semitic) definition of Anti-Semitism. We have had other revisionist visit FR pushing this very same old garbage. They are not here anymore.

noting the fact that both Arabs and Jews are Semites is wrong, somehow. Not at all. It is merely irrelevant, like Arafat.

Thank you for at least approaching me in a civil manner on this. I agree, it is in fact meaningless. I made it as a barb towards the media and at the incorrect reference to Semites that the word antisemitism conveys.

It was a quip, nothing more, and I didn't really expect an answer, let alone the "brownshirt","racist" and "leftist" references and inuendo people have been tossing at me. I think that people haters (where people = any given group picked as the scapegoat of the day)are ignorant and foolish, and that goes for the subjects of the original posted article. I've always found Arabic hatred of Jews foolish and stupid, regardless of what they label their hatred as.

Again, thank you for the civility. Nice to see that people can still debate without resorting to foaming at the mouth mad dog tactics.

I prefer to use the good old fashioned term Jew hater.

Yep. That would be the one alright. Seeing as how Semite or Semitic is derived from a language and area and not a people, poor, old Lumberjack there is starting to behave like a woodpecker. Just cain't stop.
Common usage not withstanding, I am not in any way genetically related to Yessir Aeroflare. He is an Egyptian pretending to be a Jordanian, pretending to be Tunisian, pretending to be a palestinian. If HE can't make up his mind, who the heck am I to make it up for him?

Hey, you win too man. Semites are whatever you wish to call them, ok? You da' man, you win! If you would have bothered to read any of my posts condemning Arabic hatred of Jews, you wouldn't be making these remarks, but hey, why bother, right? You win. You all win. The 19th c. Jew hating German political party definition which incorrectly references Semites, which you cling to is right, ok? You win.

I wasn't aware that Shem's children were a geographical and linguistic area as opposed to human beings. Thanks for the correction.

Hey, you win too. Words have no meaning. I'll accept all of your definitions derived from a 19th century German Jew Hating political party. You win.

In your dreams, deluded one. I have to thank veronica and company for renewing my interest in Israel, and the defense of the Jewish state.

"What you give is the "common" usage of the word, much in the same way people say "Kleenex" when they mean any facial tissue. "

Or "Jello" for gelatin, "ghetto" for slum, "African-American" for Negro, etc.

Oldbie, I see civility is not a strong point with you. When you become my drill sergeant, you may address me in this way, otherwise, buzz off.

Again, how could somebody who is against racism or religious persecution in any form be what you claim? I see that you still haven't bothered to read my previous posts where I state as much. I'm sorry if the long, complicated, polysyllabic words perplexed you. I shall attempt in future posts to use only simple, one syllable words for you, to avoid the obvious confusion you are experiencing.

That definition is incorrect Veronica. I've other dictionaries

I wasn't gonna start chewing on something new today, cause I've had an uncommonly good day so far and am in a happy mood. But his I gotta hear. What dictionary is it that takes your position on this, and tells you that Webster is wrong?? Please cite at least title, and preferrably publisher and editor/author whatever. Think you can do that?

Lighten up, Lumberjack. I wuz just funnin' with ya. I really do understand your frustration with the language. Isn't it a glorious thing though? There are hardly any words one can't get into a semantical argument about. Hence, the meaning of *is*, or *oz*. I love word play. Hang out awhile. You will learn to love it too. I even have my own dictionary for things to say when there's nothing to say. LOL

I?m not accusing you of being a ?brownshirt?. It sounds to me as though you simply made a comment based on the word semite. You should understand though, that your argument is an old one. It is frequently used by those in the Arab world. It was coined deliberately to cause this type of confusion. When earlier this year Syrian President Assad made a virulently anti-semitic speech in the presence of the Pope, his defense mirrored your comments, ?"How could he be an anti-Semite, when Arabs are Semites?". The next day, his defense minister, made his famous "When I see a Jew before me, I kill him. If every Arab did this, it would be the end of the Jews." I?m not attributing these feelings to you, simply pointing out why people might react harshly to what you may have meant as an light, innocent comment. The point of the term, the reason it was coined, was to engender confusion, and make Judenhass politically acceptable.

Thank you for the reasoned reply.

I understand completely where you are coming from. Couldn't the argument be intelligently made that the continued use of the word antisemite by those opposed to racism/religious persecution only add fuel to the fire and further the cause of confusion originally intended by those who coined this word? IOW, why refer to this as antisemitism and not straight forward racism or intolerance, or the simpler and much more honest phrase Jew Hatred?

I do hope you are paying royalties to Jesse Jackson for your splendid use of his "You don't agree with me ergo you are a racist" card.

I also see you've not bothered to read any of my posts that do not directly reference yourself. Ok, let me make it simple in language you may understand (maybe not, but one must try nonetheless).

Race hate bad.

There, did that sink in, or was it too complicated a concept? Do you need clarification? Or would you rather throw out more of your name calling posts for a while? Please, whatever makes you happy, ok? Have fun with it! :)

Musta been someone just as smart as you, huh?
Since we are doing English studies today, lets deconstruct this little gem. Your post indicates that out of all the posters on FR, ONE poster FRmailed you ONE time. Wow! You must feel like the homecoming queen.

If I may, for a moment, step aside from the "prescriptionist grammarians vs. descriptionist grammarians" debate, I'd like to address the meat of the story.

Refreshing turn of events. It is no mistake that Bush and Powell have added to their list of demands that Arafat, Egypt, etc., stop promoting anti-Semitism (and anti-Americanism) in their media. The world has stood by too long and allowed such an outrage. It does not help that the loony Euro-left nibbles from the same cookie, but I guess once again the good ole' USA will have to lead the world in the fight against hate and anti-Semi.... er, Jew hating.

It is indeed. And our toothpicks are unmatched, if I may say so myself. Especially the luxury model, hand-whittled from a single 100-ft larch.
