Senate Bill 20, allowing nonresidents to obtain a Nevada Concealed Firearms Permit has been signed into law by the Governor and is effective October 1st, 2001.
SB20 allows any nonresident to apply for a Concealed Firearms Permit from any Nevada Sheriff. Applicants must take a firearms safety course approved by the Sheriff and pass an approved course of fire with the handguns to be listed on the permit. The applicant must fill out an application, provide fingerprinting and photographing. The Sheriff has up to 120 days to issue the permit. Fees not exceeding $99 will be paid to the Sheriff. The permit is good for 3 years and is honored in 9 states (Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky and Vermont).

Around here, Police Chief Gene Byrd of Isleton used to issue them (before liberal transplants on the city council fired him). But even then, I remember neighboring jurisdictions saying they wouldn't honor CCW's issued by Byrd. Grrrrrr...Liberals suck. I mean, how can a person have a valid CALIFORNIA CCW, and yet still run the risk of arrest in large portionns of the state if he carries? I'll be SO GLAD to get out of this hellhole.

I see Nevada still has that obnoxious provision that you're only allowed to carry guns that have been listed on the permit. That's very annoying for those of us whose taste in carry guns changes faster than men's clothing styles.
Actually (quite remarkably) the law was recently broadened to allow unlimited types and amounts of guns on your permit. It takes effect in July 2002 I believe.
FYI.

You are correct. Nevada currently only allows 2 handguns. Next year (July) you can have as many as you want. You will still have to qualify with every gun you list on your permit however. In CA, we can have 3 and there may be a way for a 4th, but you don't have to qualify with the exact guns on your permit.

How in the world do you get a CCW in CA? And can you carry throughout the state? Sure ain't in the cards where I live. My friend has had one for 20 years. When it expires, he goes to the county sheriff, does the paperwork and gets another one. Somebody can correct me, but it may be good only for that county...not sure.

Oh my goodness.....it was a rough night last night....I give myself 100 lashes with a wet noodle!
Please forgive me. I really DID graduate summa cum laude with a BA in Poli Sci. I could have blamed it on a typo, but it was really a "senior moment."
