St. Petersburg Times wirePutin Receives Venezuelan President--[Excerpt] ``We in Russia view Venezuela as an influential and authoritative state in Latin America, as a serious participant in the club of world powers,'' Putin said, opening the first meeting of the two sides' delegations.
As for Venezuela, Caracas has a ``huge interest'' in political, economic and technological cooperation with Russia, Chavez responded. He praised Putin for what he called ``the revival'' of Russia.
``We're described in the world in a similar way,'' Chavez told Putin later, according to the ITAR-Tass news agency. ``We're called people of democracy, with our own vision of democracy.''[End Exceprt]
