How can I thank you, technochick99! The tears that come as I read through this thread are tinged with warmth, love, smiles, gratitude, memories, even hope. Thanks.
And thanks to you, Brunna, for connecting me with all of these caring people in my grief. Now you see why I spent so much of our precious time at the computer. But sure who was to know that time would end so soon.

These poems and stories always bring tears to my eyes so lets cry together as we remember the dogs we loved so much.My Golden that I put to sleep recently had her tennis ball with her, too.
Happy birthday!

Happy Birthday, Ennis. I am so sorry about you losing Brunna. I know what that sort of pain is like and anyone who says it is easier than losing a human friend has either never lost a dog or doesn't really like dogs in the first place. You are in my thoughts to be sure.
To: Flyer
Good to give it a tail-wagging bump anyway!!!

Brunna will have met my Heather, Wren, Merlin, Magic, Scupper, Bryant, and my horse Savannah by now. I hope they have a good romp.
I haven't cried this much in a good long time. Some of these writings I was familiar with, others not. Thanks to everyone for their contributions. I am going to hold Rocky and Lillian Gish close to my heart and thank God for their precious comfort. I hope you will find another companion when the time is right.
The late entertainer Steve Allen was asked to contribute a poem to a Long Island Animal Welfare Group that was raising money for a new shelter. He wrote this heart-breaking classic, one of the greatest poems about dogs I have ever read.
MISSING OUR DOGS
Old Men miss many dogs.
They only live a dozen years,if that,
And by the time you are sixty, there are several
The names of which evoke remembering smiles.
You see them in your mind, heads cocked and seated.
You see them by your bed, or in the rain,
Or sleeping by the fire by nights
And always dying.
You are young but they are old. They go,
The German shepherd and the poodle,
The bassett hound and mutt.
They are remembered like departed children
Though they gave vastly more than ever they took,
And finally you're seeing dogs that look like them.
They pass you in the street but never turn
Although it seems they should, their faces so familiar.
Old men miss many dogs.

When my boy dog was cremated in July, the crematory put this poem in his cedar box with his cremains. Very touching, very sad.

Shortly after his death, Brunna sent a border collie/spaniel mix, Paddy, to step into his shoes and take care of EnnisExile, whom he so reluctantly left behind. Brunna waits for them both at the Rainbow Bridge.
Everyone, please welcome EnnisExile's new puppy
Paddy
And EnnisExile, you may visit Paddy's album at http://community.webshots.com/user/dianalr
Send me new photos to post there any time you like

The help you have given EE with her pictures is the work of an Angel. Give yourself a gold star for the week.

"However it is part of life and would never trade the happy times for no time at all." I just made that dreadful decision this morning for my long time partner of 13 1/2 years, Spike. I cannot stop thinking about him.
However, your words have brought some comfort to me.
Thanks pal! RL

My sister's dog passed away this morning. I knew where to come to find some comforting words for her.
Thanks to all that participated on this thread. I have come back to it several times and get tears in my eyes every time.
