Let me try to briefly clarify 'reverse psychology' for you. First of all it is not a legitimate Psychological construct, as far as trained professionals are concerned. Doubt that? Go to www.apa.org and try to find any scholarly data on it. 'Reverse psychology' is a 'pop-psychology' concept. It is a 'Psychology Today' periodical based cutesy phrase often used by moms and people who think they are clever. It implies that by suggesting (insincerely) that a person does one thing you can actually manipulate their behavior to do another. There are many reasons people do not do what they are asked, the reasons as varied as the people involved. There are also many people who will actually do what they are asked, for equally varied reaons. 'Reverse psychology' is a weak way to attempt to describe manipulation of defiance mechanisms and in your cases above is applied to the wrong party. If you were to use this lame concept as an overarching concept on why people do things then at least apply it to the generator of the 'reverse psychology' not the recipient.
