I patronized a CB restaurant for the first time ever about two months ago, and I have to say I saw this coming. I assume most or all CBs are like the ones I went to and they are very rural-themed and old-timey and harken to a bygone, white world. I knew immediately that somebody somewhere was going to be pissed about it. I don't believe for a minute that these people have been discriminated against or had any real problems, other than they perceive the restaurant's themes and motifs leave them out.

I eat at Cracker Barrel regularly, both where I live, and when on the road. I have NEVER seen blacks treated with anything but courtesy. Sometimes there is a wait to get served or to eat, but that simply happens. It can abe a very busy place. My experiences are anecdotal, but just have never seen anything like the suit describes.

They are all pretty much identical. And you are right, they are old timey. Probably not enough black-oriented chintz on the shelves. Unreal.

This is all a crock. I have eaten at the Cracker Barrel and it is always packed to the gills. I have seen black people who were seated promptly and treated with the utmost courtesy. Many times, when the restaurant is packed, the only places to sit are in the smoking section. The restaurant is divided off by walls of themed bric-a-brac. In the past, I had to leave the restaurant because the waiting line was too long. People are admitted on a first come, first served basis. Personally, I don't buy this story.

Rural and old-timey are exclusive to white worlds? Bet that if you ever do go to the South, you don't get off the interstate except to eat and get gas.

Interesting logic. I suppose then as a white Southerner then I should feel offended by basically every other restaurant in the country sans Cracker Barrel since I feel "left out"....theme and motif-wise that is.

You are probably right. How dare any restaurant celebrate rural America (i.e, the Red States).

"...old-timey and harken to a bygone, white world."

What exactly, does this mean? I'm trying to picture that. Do they give prompt, polite service or something bizarre like that?
