I worked in biotech research for about 15 years before retiring to be a mom. You have one expert on immune function and another expert in dna sequencing, but the guy who can lead you to the bug is the one that worked in the animal research lab. The first two guys are about making a bug more potent or changing structure. The guy in the animal lab was working the bug itself.
Find out what he was working on and you have some information. Just my two cents. Also my husband has long held that what they will do is something like hoof and mouth, to devastate our economy. Hoof and mouth doesn't require scientific help, though, so I think it's something zoonotic. I think they're going to attack out agriculture, probably livestock, and somehow make it so that it also gets us in the process.
You need to find out about veterinary publications in scientific review journals in Australia, then search for the published work of the Nguyen guy. He had a speciality, what was it?

now go here And read about Dr Marion Andrew, 5th one down, who seems to be working at Geelong, wasn't that where this microbiologist, Nguyen, died? And it seems to indicate that Geelong is about livestock industries and food safety.
Then go down to read about Dr Alex Hyatt, who has a larger paragraph and was awarded some medal for his work with a zoonotic virus, newly emerged to boot.
And I just went and looked for this stuff a few secs ago. My husband is a smart guy, did I mention he is a biochemist?

Here's another thought; I've always been confident that if "anything happened" my family would be OK because we could hunt and live off the land. Now I'm hearing that North American herds are contaminated with a BSE like disease. In Wyoming (where I hail from) the local health dept is offering free testing during the hunting season.

Cut off the food supply, then cut off viable alternatives.
