Correction: the media has no idea where OBL may be. We simply do not know what the people in charge of this operation know, and for good reason.
The last thing we would do if we knew where he is is tell anyone in the media. I suspect we know a lot more than we are telling. How many weeks ago did the media tell us we were in a quagmire and the Taliban were certain to win? You apparently believe that because the media has been wrong on every point up to now, they are right this time. All of the media is guessing. They mostly guess wrong.
It is our goal to take out the terrorists. Our prime goal is not to take out the leaders, our prime goal is to take out the followers. Leaders of terrorists groups are easy to come by. What is hard is to get are followers. If we kill most of the followers, there won't be much left for "leaders" to lead.
But if we kill the leaders quickly the media and public opinion will demand we stop killing and come home. The followers would just get some new leaders, and we would be in danger again. So it is important to go on killing followers and letting Osama live until he is among the handful remaining... then we kill them.
If we could have killed Bin Laden the first day we would not have done it.
