A Loudoun County father has filed a civil rights grievance to stop Virginia school students from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance because he says the words exclude foreign nationals and offend some religions.

Edward Myers, an American citizen and a software engineer from Sterling, has petitioned the U.S. Department of Justice to replace the pledge with patriotic songs and sayings that are neutral to religion and citizenship and therefore more inclusive than the pledge itself.

It is simple -- as long as he continues this campaign, have a peaceful demonstration on the street in front of his house and recite the pledge of allegance aloud. Do it every Saturday morning at 11:00 am. Assemble, do the pledge, then leave. Hand out flyers to folks who ask why it is being done, explaining the nature of the protest.

Repeat protest until he desists from his grievance. He has a right to not to say it. We have a right to say it. Let's see who gets tired first.

After the September 11 attacks, schools around the Washington region reported that several students, who did not usually participate in reciting the pledge, were beginning to say it.

Why could an individual subvert the right of a school or a nation its character and history and then claim their rights has been infringed? The judge should throw this suit out, right subversion is a nono in this right subversion by terror atmosphere. After all no one forced him to accept the pledge and when I was an exchange student no one ever forced me to pledge. I still did because I was taught to be polite and honor the nation hosting me, but I never was forced to do so.

These people have no idea about what they are destroying. They are destroying exactly what I had benefited from when in a US high school.

While I consider myself pretty fair about most things, I consider this pretty $hitty. They move to the greatest country in the world, presumeably because they wish to be part of it & become a citizen & to partake in all the benefits that are associated with it. Then after accepting all these benefits they begin to bitch & complain about reciting the Pledge of Allegience.
Once upon a time our diversity was a plus, now I believe it has become a blight upon our country that not only has cost us with American lives (WTC) but now they are after our religion & patriotism. Again I have just one word for these ungrateful SOB's, LEAVE!

Hey buddy, which national anthem do you think they say in France? Or Germany? Do you think that either France or Germany would enable you to make such a rich living by conducting business in (your language) JUST so you can understand what's going on? I took an oath to defend the Constitution and this Nation against all ememies, foriegn and domestic. I think an oath of allegence to a piece of cloth is lame as well as stupid.

Wouldn't surprise me if this father might be supporting members of the foreign army which has infiltrated our country and caused the 9/11 terrorist attack. Yes, what are those foreigners doing in our public schools. If they are so offended by the pledge, maybe they would be happier living somewhere else.

No doubt one of the people hating the pledge is his foreign born wife. Wonder if she was one of those people whose citizenship Gore illegally hurried through.
