American mediator Gen. Anthony Zinni, who met with Yasser Arafat yesterday, said about him, "I have never encountered such lack of trustworthiness in my life."
He said it was a "waste of time to try to reach a serious agreement with Arafat," and will concentrate on talking with other top figures in the PA - probably a reference to Muhammad Dahlan, Jibril Rajoub, and others.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon breakfasted today with the European Union's Javier Solana, expressing his satisfaction with the EU's call for the dismantling of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
The EU's statement of yesterday also called upon Israel to freeze settlement activity in Judea and Samaria. Sharon said that Israel is anxious to fulfill another EU request by easing some restrictions upon the Palestinian population, but "the unceasing terrorism makes this difficult."
I was just wondering if your jack boots and brown shirts are cleaned and spiffy (ooops an ad hominem sorry)
Articles with similar wording have occured in the World Tribune, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Jerusalem Post you don't really mean to suggest that only AP UPI and CNN are the only sources you"trust" do you?
Zinni was attacked ( by a suicide bomber) by the PLO .It is not surprising that these comments may have come from his lips
Achtung! Perhaps your own knee-jerk anti-Israeli bias keeps you from considering another explanation...
You are right that General Zinni is a professional and no fool. Zinni's recent tenure as CINC US Central Command was as much a diplomatic as military post, navigating among so many competing feudal interests in Southwest Asia while conducting a rear guard defense against a traitorous Clintonia. Zinni understands nuance, and he knows how to play the game.
What might be overlooked in the statement attributed to Zinni is a signal to Palestinians that the United States no longer regards Arafat as a legitimate player. Such undiplomatically-blunt statements are often slipped and later denied, leaving the intended message between the lines but in bold letters. When he rejected Barak's sweetheart deal last year, Arafat proved that he was interested in neither peace nor co-existence with Israel. Yassir Arafat is a a terrorist to his core, and now he may be toast. This Marine wishes him good riddance.
I find it interesting that among all the combatant nations in the Arab-Israeli dispute, only one of those nations would allow an open, public conversation about this issue -- Israel. I have fought for my country, and I am no more disloyal as an American in support of Israel's ancient claim to its tiny sliver of land than you are in opposing it.
Where I was raised, they're a little different from what you've shown on this board.
You seem to be in a minority. I am with God in this dispute. G'day.
What do you consider a credible American source perhaps the Spotlight or some such???
Ohhh you are a funny funny man
Out of curiosity do you have ANY friends that disagree withyou on anything?
Oh by the way Pat Buchannan has slready stated his fondness for the top Nazi perhaps that is why you like him so
Pollard and this post have NOTHING to do with each other except in your demented world view
You may be good at sarcasm (self proclaimed) but you do not seem to be able to read addtional articles that say the same thing in subtler words
Perhaps you are but a literalist after all How sad for you
Uh?
In your world, saying that someone said Arafat is not trustworthy is defaming the person who may have said such a thing?
With all the bombing going on, which of you is getting more sleep at night, you, or your bunk mate bin Ladin?
I wasn't flaming anyone, so don't lump me into that category. But IMO if a poster is going to defend the article instead of simply providing it for commentary, then they should do some research to back up the article - like I did to see if the quote was mentioned anywhere else. And veronica has said she stands by the post, but she has provided NOTHING to back her words up.
Those Palestinian Christians know what God's politics are as much as I do. He loves us all but what God hates more than liars is people who shun him and his Son Jesus Christ. Sorry, thats the sin he hates the most and thats the category Arafat is in.
