So bad they defy description:
1. Wellstone
2. Boxer
3. Murray
4. Daschle
5. Leahy
6. Reid
7. Clinton (hasn't been there long enough to be on this list, but past track record warrants inclusion)
I have a real affection for all the '94 guys, but have been disappointed by a few of 'em.
Frist is in until 2006, right? And Thompson's term is up in 2002?
Richard Shelby
Jesse Helms
Rick Santorum
Strom Thurmond
Jeff Sessions
Kay Bailey Hutchingson
Zell Miller (D)
At least two others from the '20's.
Later, Mickey Vernon and then Frank "Hondo" Howard.
Though he only played briefly for the Senators when he was about 50 , Satchel Paige has to be one of the greatest pitchers who ever threw the ball.
1) Phil Gramm (far ahead of the pack!)
2) Bob Smith (take that, Smith haters)
3) Larry Craig (Idaho = King of conservativism)
4) Jeff Sessions or Rick Santorum (watch these guys floor speeches!)
5) Jim Inhofe (better than Nickles!)
Best FIVE (of all time)
1) Daniel Webster (my mother family is Webster-- relatives of his. I'm biased)
2) Everett McKinley Dirksen (He's from home state. I'm biased)
3) John C. Calhoun (right ideas, but wrong agenda. GREATEST debator ever)
4) Robert A. Taft -- MR. Republican! Lead conservatives BEFORE Goldwater.
5) Henry Clay. One of the "great orators". Had to add 'em.
Top Senators by REGION
New England -- Bob Smith (that was easy!)
Mid-Atlantic-- Rick Santorum (even easier!)
Mid-west-- Peter Fitzgerald (compare voting record to Lugar & Grassley if you say he's a RINO)
Deep South-- Jeff Sessions (more likeable than Helms, more agressive than Thurmond)
Southwest-- Wayne Allard (beat Gale Norton. Tougher than Kyl)
Rocky Mountains-- Larry Craig (hard to pick just one!)
West Coast-- Gordon Smith (only non-socialist in the bunch)
TOP 5 UNDERRATED:
1) Rick Santorum (cause conservatives are biased towards southern or western states)
2) Peter Fitzgerald (see above)
3) Bob Smith (see above)
4) Jim Bunning (much more conservative than McConell, who gets all the press. Bunning was a celebrity even BEFORE he was in the Senate)
5) Bob Bennett (conservative who no one pays attention to)
TOP 5 OVERRATED:
1) Zell Miller (he's no PAUL COVERDELL, and he sure as heck isn't "conservative" enough to stop Dasshole from winning every vote)
2) John Breaux. (see above. Turned down Bush's cabinet offer because Dasshole told him to)
3) George Allen. Stole all the thunder from John Ensign, who ran in a state where it was harder to win)
4) Ben Nelson (see 1 & 2)
5) Susan Collins . Some freepers actually claim the ultra pro-choice Clinton apologist is "conservative" now.
Thompson commands a lot of attention, and frequently Republicans/Conservatives have a problem just getting in front of the public. Unfortunately, even when they do, frequently they stammer and stumble around and cannot articulate a policy, position or idea. Thompson's acting experience combined with a first-class brain is a plus, IMHO.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
That says it all!
I wish wealthy Conservatives such as Rush, Forbes, Kemp, etc., would buy one of the big 3.
